What software for copyng my film acting scenes to a DVD

I gave a film director a copy of a film I acted in. I rented it from Blockbuster. I had 6 scenes. He told me he copied my scenes from it onto a DVD disk for his files and was able to do it with a certain software that was designed to do that. This is a movie that was released to theaters and just now is in the video stores. I thought there would be some kind of 'guard or lock' to prevent this.

It sounds illegal but I remember when we were shooting the editor of the film telling me its easy to do with the proper software.

I never got the name of the software. Does anyone know which one it is? I want to get just my acting footage from TV and films I've done.

Thanks
JJ

Yes, DVD ripping is illegal, unless you own the DVD's yourself and just want to make a backup to preserve the original. Still VERY controversial, and I don't think DVXuser wants to deal with any of it...

That being said, google it.

There's a great deal of DVD ripping software out there.

As Ryan noted, ripping even DVDs you own for your own personal backup use can be risky, because the RIAA and distributors have a bad habit of changing their tune from day to day, with regard to what they will countenance and what they will pursue.

Not that you are particularly likely to have trouble over your personal demo reel, but there it is.
