Hey everyone-- I've stumbled across a problem in a little project I'm working on. I'm doing a senior class act for a variety show (its a tradition) and we have a portion where we spoof the star wars space dog-fight scene/destruction of the death star. I basically only got on board with the project a day ago and now everyone is pressing for it to be done in under a week-- so the idea of creating some tie-fighters/x-wings is out... in fact I probably don't even have enough time to do a cheesy 2d animation in FCP. So I figured it would be completely legal to capture some of the space footage from the Star Wars films and just cut it together with our cockpit shots... seeing as how the film is only going to air once at the variety show and it isn't making any sort of profit at all.

So heres what I'm wondering, how do I get full quality footage of those space dog-fights? I figure it involves a DVD and a DVD player with some sort of hookup to the computer and then just capturing as it plays?? Please let me know, thanks!

What makes you think that is legal? Are you a lawyer? Do you have proof that it is legal? Did you read the FBI warning?

Jeez guys, don't freak out, its a 10 minute, $0 budget, student film... chill. I don't see why you would think it would be that big of a problem when if you look at basically any parody/fan film you will find that thousands of people have done it... And Lucas even started an annual mash-up contest where he provided clips and scenes from the films to put in people's fan films/parodies. If anyone can help me with an answer I would be very grateful!

Google DVD Ripping- this forum is not here to help you pirate movies whether it's for a variety show or whatever. Ignorance of copyright law wins you nothing but laughter in court... :dankk2:
