300 Series G2 vs Lectro UM400

Hello everyone! I am looking for some advice from those that have much more experience than I. I am currently weighing out the option to purchase either the 300 Series G2s or the Lectro UM400 wireless systems. I am hoping some of you can give me feedback on performance/range/durability pros and cons for both setups. I will need to purchase in the near future and would love some quality advice. Just for the record I have rented the Lectros previously and I was quite happy with the results. Light years from the AT2100 series wireless lavs I own. Thanks in advance for the help and your time!!!

Zero comparison... the Lectro will SPANK THE SH*T OUT OF THE SENNHEISER!

Was that clear enough?

The Senn 100-300-500 all perform the exact same... the only difference is features... features that affect various FUNCTIONS... but NONE of which affects actual performance. If you're in a situation that will cause a 100 of a particular frequency to take a hit or lose signal... you can interchange the 300 and 500 in that exact situation and they will fail in exactly the same way.

The Lectro 400 will be 99% less likely to fail in the same event.

I'm allowing 1% just in case the event takes place on an exact frequency, or if you made the mistake of choosing a frequency block that is totally washed out in that area (due to d-tv or something)...

Zero comparison between ANY G2 and any Lectro from 195D and up... even the Lectro 100 is twice the cost of the G2 because it's twice as good... but the higher Lectros are an order of magnitude better...

You are not really comparing like with like as the Lectro is much more expensive than the G2 and has about x3 the output power.

Presumably that's why we don't see Lectro in Europe as there is a 50mW upper limit on power.

The more fair comparison is the Sennheiser 3000 series - they are a lot better (and more expensive) than the G2 series.

I don't know what Lectro's selectivity is like when running multi-channel - but with G2, even, you can get 11 IM-free frequencies in a single 8MHz TV channel.

Sennheiser sells the 300-500 sets and people assume increased performance over the 100... they HOPE that the extra cost closes the gap a bit, but it doesn't.

I had the 500 sets and the extra features they provide aren't worth what Sennheiser gets... which is probably why you don't see many around, but even the 300 series comes at a premium compared to the 100... so I wanted to be sure to clarify the issue for the OP, who asked about the 300 series.

Lectro 400 is the gold standard in the USA... it's not just the output power. If somebody implies that they can go Lectro... I'm always going to encourage that option. I'd wager that 90% of the american television that the world hears... if it was captured through wireless... was with Lectro.

Thank you both for the input! It helps clear that up for me. I was under the assumption that it would be "feature" upgrades and not the "guts" of the 300s that would be different from the 100. At this point I can afford to go for one Lectro setup or go with two of the G2-300s. It looks like I will be ahead, in terms of quality, range, less hits, etc. with the Lectro and when needed I can rent another Lectro.

My greatest concern is getting a reliable connection with the fewest hits / problems with the reception.

Thanks again!

Well, it looks like I am steering towards the Lectro units. What are your opinions between the LMa and UM400A transmitters? It seems as the only difference (outside of the removable antenna) is the 50mW and 100mW. Is real world terms, what kind of impact can one expect from the jump? I know these are rudimentary questions, but this is my first "leap" into high end audio, so your time and advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
