SGPro Blade Review

In CA in most cases is the front lens, so wait to see same more footage... with a variety of lenses.

Cheers Evangelos. It's important not to be so nitpicky on just one example of footage. This was shot almost entirely on two Nikon F2.8 zoom lenses.

Adriano, I know you make your own adaptor but that shouldn't stop you from congratulating Wayne on a job well done rather than just contribute in the discussion by just pointing out a problem with some of the footage.

overall, the picture the blade creates is very nice, even with the slight CA. I doubt the CA is noticable in motion on a tv screen as I hardly noticed it on the computer screen.
this is a big one up over the letus extreme for me as I'll be in the market for a 35mm adapter over the next couple of months. the backfocus adjustment and xy alignment alone at its price point is the major factor plus the non issue over iris and shutter speed.
plus the poor exchange rate and the shipping costs from letus and brevis rules them out at the moment. lets wait a couple of months and see how things pan out for myself but at the moment, the blade beats them all out.

I wanted this to be right, but every shot has pretty bad ca in the lower left of the frame, I downloaded some of phils siberia footage with ex1 and extreme to compare and its sharp sharp sharp...I was ready to part with the "hard earned" last night, now I dont know.

Wayne from shoot35 commented that this was with an ex1 and we should wait for hv20...but ive got an ex1

undecided now i wait for more footage,

ps I dont think any manufacturers should be using this forum to slate the competition.

I dont get that either, what did wayne mean by this is with ex1 should wait for hv20 ?

is the blade no good for bigger cameras ? i dont get it ?

there is chromatic aberration in the footage too. you need to see the video in HD, in full screen to see it. these crops from the footage shows the chromatic aberration, the green/blue and yellow/red fringing in the contrast objects:

I see what you mean... like this picture you showed here:

Around the HD icon look at that chromatic aberration lol/JOKE.

Not being funny but I have to agree with Bloom, you are a competitor, rather than post comments on quality you could at least congratulate Wayne on what he has achieved rather than trying to scrutinize his product only on negatives. I see alot of plus points of the Blade that override your product, why not mention these as well? As said the minimal amount of chromatic aberration could of been cause from a number of different factors, like 35 lens used or camera used at particular settings, over time Im sure these factors will be made clear. Just like people had to learn that with a LEX you cant stop down past 5.6.

Well thats my 2 pence worth

Philip, thanks for testing it! :)
Did you also get a ROTOrazor2? I'd love to see some footage with that ground glass in.
While your shots were good, I really did not like the bokeh of the razor 1, kind of... uahhh.
The groundglass made me go for my sgpro, and I'd love to see some stuff with the original ground glass...

yep i have the rotorazor2, i probably won't get a chance to do any tests with it until next weekend now...

Man, you reply really fast! :)
No hurry, but I', really looking forward to that. I guess I'm really in love with the SGPro look. It has the disadvantages of greater lightloss, but for me that s the most outstanding part.

Are you happy with the bokeh, in comparison to the ultimate?

congratulations

congratulations

I can give congratulations for the box, for the rails, but I cannot give congratulations for the sgblade adapter itself. The image is not perfect at this moment and it needs some tweaking. I am not here for competition. I am here because I think the customers deserves the best. Why not sit down and think: yes, there is some CA, lets work on it... instead off asking for congratulatios? This is time for improvements, not for congratulations.

I was thinking about the joke and realized that would not be respected just laugh it as teddybear said., but the joke helps the people to identify the CA between the edges of black and white in the image.

Adriano,

We appreciate your input and we are constantly researching & improving - development never really ends. We have designed the SGblade so that any future upgrades can be implemented at a VERY low cost.

Do you have footage online from your adapter with the EX1, with no CA present? The EX1 is the most problematic camera when used with a 35mm adapter but we are very pleased with the results.

In the next few weeks, users will be posting footage from a variety of different camcorders, and you will see improved performance with cams such as the HVX200, HPX-170, HMC 150, HV20/30 etc.

When is the blade going to be ready for use with the ex1 ? are you gonna bring out a optimisation kit wayne ?

Also will you be at earls court ?

Hi,

The Blade is ready for the EX1. It is comparable in performance with any other adapter at this price point.

No optimization kits are planned, but if a better achromat was produced, an upgrade would be low cost.

We will not be at earls court, unfortunately.

oh people, that was the first test .. relax and wait ... some are to fast with there opinions... i hope the topic stays in place.

philip: yeah thank you for the short clip and the first review!!! i was sitting all the time in front of my computer ... too see what happens :-)

CA is a problem with the EX1 itself, so it's not nececarily the adaptars fault (though it may or may not add to the problem). Most probably not. Also, you can't rule out the lens used on the adapter.

I will be picking one up to go on the end of an ex1 thats for sure, needless to say still would like to see some more footage, low light, indoor etc. also some tests with the focus being shifted.

nice job wayne and the rest of s35.

sorry if a really dumb question, why wouldnt an xh-a1 for example not be effected by CA yet EX1 would, do they house different chips?
