SgPro R3 vs. EX1 Stock lens

Here's a quick and dirty test I made this morning. I wanted to see how close to SgPro's look I can get in EX1's macro mode. The focal lenghts aren't totally comparable but you get the idea. What surprised me is how perfectly the SgPro holds up the sharpness. I also love the fact that I have to zoom EX1 only about 50-55 to get zero vignetting. Maybe it's due the non flip model.

I shot in 1080/25p. The images are compressed JPEG's.

Looks really good! Is there a slight blue tint on the SGPro image or is that just the added contrast from the 35mm lens?

How do you like the follow focus? Im thinking about ordering it with the new SGBlade and would love to hear some comments on it!

do you have the new ex1 condenser lens? how do the edges look? can you get an even plane of focus or only the center and only the edges?

looks super sharp thuogh!! wow!!!

Actually the 35mm lens eats up the contrast from the image, so I did a slight black adjustment for the SgPro image. And yes there's a little difference in color balance between the images.

The follow focus unit is really great - little play for the price. It's not a Chrosziel but it does what it says. I recommend it, you won't disappoint.

Yes I have the EX1 fix/condenser lens and I can get very even focus. It only gets better if one stops down the EX lens to 3.4-4.0. My only grief is the slight CA which sometimes appears on the edges of the image. It shows up very randomly though and I'm not sure what causes it because the EX lens itself seems to have a small amount of CA in certain situations.

awesome to hear! how are you dealing with the flipped image? i don't see an external monitor there :)

i was planning on getting the new flip which is ex1 friendly, but am now not so sure.

I tried to flip the lcd few days ago, just had to open two phillips screws and then jam the little switch which goes down when you turn the lcd towards the front of the camcorder. Too bad the image flips only vertically and I still have to deal with the horizontally mirrored image. I used to do the same trick with my HVX and it worked because it had a mirror function in the menu. I tried to find the same function from the EX1 with no luck :( So that trick really isn't an option. It's sad because the lcd itself is so crystal clear and sharp. Maybe I'll get the new Marshall monitor when the HD/SDI -model comes out.

...and you are correct that the non flip tube has the advantage of the lower zoom level over the flip, of course you'll have to deal with the mirrored image then :)
