david, burning a DVD for important meeting today - need best settings

Hi David, Lord of Vegas, :) I need quick help:

Need to burn a DVD for this meeting I have today and wondering what best settings are to make the best quality DVD of my film?

I have:

1- 720-24PN HVX200 footage in 24p
2- Will use DVD architect to burn it.

In the past I have used "render to mpg2" setting (audio in wav form, rendered seperately).

I notice there are many options under mpg2 - for DVD artichect.

1- I selected DVD Architect 24p NTSC Widescreen video stream (it's giving me two very narrow black borders on each side though - like my image is nt quite wide enough - is that normal?)

I then looked at settings in "custom" mode. Noticed frame size sound small (720 X 480) . Should it not be 1280 X 720?

I also noticed the video rendering quality is set by default as "good" instead of "best"

I didn't want to mess with any of the other settings, but did try to change the frame size and got an error message. If I don't change the frame size but change the render quality to "best" it renders OK.

What settings do you advise me to use to get the very bestest quality of DVD ?

Thank David. I'll wait to hear back from you to burn my DVD, my meeting is early afternoon... Thank you for your help,

You want to use the DVD Architect 24p Widescreen template, as you've seen.

You do want to change Good to Best, because you're rescaling the image and Best will use the best algorithm for that. If your project is SD, Good is fine, because there's no rescaling (usually).

There are black lines on both sides of the picture because SD "16:9" is actually a little wider than actual 16:9. Most people won't notice the lines; they'll be within the overscan on any TV, or they'll blend into the player background if you show it on a computer.

But, if you want to get rid of them, you can create a DV 24p timeline, put your project VEG file into it, and then go into pan/crop, right-click on the frame, and choose "Match Output Aspect." There will then be a slight zoom-in, but it shouldn't be a problem for your DVD because you're downscaling quite a bit anyway by going to SD. Render using the DVD Architect template with the quality change.

Hope you got this soon enough; was out all day until now.

Should sound be rendered as .wav or AC3?

If AC3 which one? (I see there are two options)

About ready to burn DVD :) THANK YOU

Can be either -- up to you. If there's a lot of room on the DVD, using .wav (PCM) would be higher quality, but make sure you change the audio in the DVD Architect project settings (AC-3 is default).

AC-3 is more compressed, but it's encoded with a wider dynamic range (so it will seem quieter when you play it -- there's more room above the baseline). It's also your only option if you encoded in 5.1 surround. I use Pro, not Studio.
