How do you "crush blacks" in AE?

Sorry if this is a simple question, but I'm new to AE. What's the best way to crush the blacks without affecting the rest of the image? Thanks in advance.

just curious, how do you know that you want to "crush the blacks", when you don't know what the blacks are?

why don't you explain amrrahmy

If you use curves, there is a line going from bottom left to upper right, if you click along the line towards the bottom left, position the point you clicked towards the bottom on the curve chart. The bottom is 100% black, so you are telling the video that after a certain value you want it to go to black.

... kinda terrible at explaining that. (personal advice, don't over do it unless its for a actual aesthetic choice... seems to be done way too much for no reason at all)

i don't like it when people imitate things blindly, he didn't ask why people crush the blacks, and he didn't know what crushing the blacks is, since he asked what to do with levels or curves.

I think you are being judgmental. He didnt say he didnt know what crushing the blacks is, he was asking HOW to operate the levels and curves.

This is someone just starting out. A little patience and manners wouldn't go astray.

okay,
it's more of a graphical thing, so it's not easy to explain.
levels is the graphical representation of the amount of luminance of an object or the reflection of light on an object.
to be simple i would exclude colors for now, for example if the image was black and white, you would find various degrees of gray in between the black and white points in an image, you can set the white and black points to tell the software where black and white is, you can also either set one point of gray in the middle of the white and black at any point in between or adjust individual portions of the gray areas. some restrictions may apply due to the way image are captured and processed, usually higher bit depth in both the capture and the processing is welcomed.
to set a lower black point without affecting too much the rest you would use curves set a point on the area you don't want to change first in the middle of the line of the curve to lock it, then set one or two points near the black to reset the black point, a curve must be had either adding or reducing the contrast of the image.
