hi resolution monitor <$200

so if i use this monitor which has a resolution of 800X480 (technically SD or close to it), i should be able to utilize all or almost all the pixels via composite? I've been researching and have found that marshall field monitors have a resolution of 800x480 as well. Thank you for your expertise.

It depends what you are looking for in a monitor. If you simply need a monitor for composition and framing, then many will do, and some in your price range. If you are banking for exposure and color rendition, there is nothing really in that price range.

Now for my little poem:

If you need this for a director or steadicam op to look at, you may be in luck. If you are basing exposure, colors, contrast, etc..... you might find yourself *#cked.

800x450 is not exactly what I would call high resolution.

But after reading that tread over at dvInfo I bought one on Ebay.
Its called DVP-FX870 and has a 8" Display.

I let you guys know when it arrives.

All I can say is WOW! Much better than I expected, even without hood in bright daylight. Blows the Marshall and Lilipt out of the water. About same quality as the Totevision. I wish it would have component inputs thou. But for that price...

....and that monitor comes with a free DVD player :)

Strange thing: If you play DVD the picture is not as good as you hook up a camera.

Anyway, I bought it for the camera and not for DVD.
No I got to find out, how to mount it on my Noga arm.

Your post sealed the deal for me. I am gonna pick one of these up as well.

I own that DVD player and for an SD monitor is is very sharp. If you're just using it for your DVX I'd highly recommend it. Just need to get creative in how you rig it to the cam or some other support mechanism.
