What can I get for $600?

I'm also going to recommend the RNG35 adapter
The new v3.1 is a tiny bit out of your price range but the V3 can be had for around $500 used maybe even less.
I have a v3 and I recently ordered a v3.1 it’s a really good adapter for the price.

You can make one yourself for less and its great when you have control over your adapter and you can modify it yourself.Just zoom to get rid of vignetting cause every lens make the circle and vignetting , and focus on projected image on pouch ,screen or some semi transparent white plastic.

How long does it take to make one? I am not very handy with tools and really have no idea where to even begin. I guess I can look at some tutorials. If I build my own, what sort of quality should I expect?

Its the fine tuning that takes time. If you have the patience that can go from months to years, then you can start to make one. The results would vary through your R & D stages.

I made mine starting 2004. I'm on my 4th version.

No its not months and not years , maybe weeks but its just waiting for the parts which you will buy online ,it takes long to receive them from different countries, depends where you live.
Making spinning adapter with ready parts is just one day and maybe second day is for adjusting ,you must have it connected to monitor to see how footage looks how sharp it is and how much vignetting and you adjusting everything.I think building spinning one from pouch is best for diy cause you can clean the pouch and if you will buy the canon focusing screen then if you will let it to catch dust then is pain to take it off and you can easily destroy it ,or you can try to put the screen inside of two filters to keep it away from dust but my mate did that and hes got some soft corners on canon ee-a ,he must zoom in more to get rid of this.
Well i dont have HD camera but i tested different types of screen for quality and if screen is more transparent if you will see more things through it when you look through it without having it on adapter then you will get more sharpness but you will lose some depth of field ,the more transparent is screen the bigger is focused area and if your screen is less transparent then it have better depth of field but also is starting to lose the light so you can adjust this yourself and make a couple of screens from pouches to use in different shots if you want more sharpness.

Sounds like a pain in the ass. My budget is now 800. That extra 200 could probably buy me a screw for the rods for the adapter. Hah. I'm still searching for an adapter.

I dont think its a pain in the ass , it was a pleasure actually to build something ,theres satisfaction and you gain more knowledge about how this thing work but if youre not this type of guy then buy some adapter , check vimeo with hd quality for footage or ask here but also remember that ive seen pretty bad and awful footage from letus extreme so it also depends on the person who use adapter how footage looks.

I'd be interested to hear from users of this http://www.kkymn.com/
And I assume the prices are US currency?

Nope, Canadian. If out dollar didn't suck so much right now, my budget could be higher. So when I say $800, I actually mean around $650 U.S.

I like that TwoNeil adapter; the one link you send me earlier. For it's price, the footage is quite impressive. As far as I know though, it only works for smaller cameras?

Also, that Handy35 link you showed me is one I already looked at. If it wasn't so much out of my price range, I would have ordered one by now.

twoneil is static , if you let the dust to touch the screen then youre screwed. You would have to buy new canon sceen.

I am thinking of just surrendering and dropping more cash. I am seriously considering the Handy 35. It looks great. Are there any adapters I can get for $1200 that come with the rails and mount?

What about this:

What else would I need beside that? Just a lens, right?

I am a bit worried though if I decide with something like that since they are announcing a new product any day now...

have u looked on the rng35. i;ve seen people mention it here however u seem to not mention checking it out. from what i gather, it is a good adapter and its in ur price range.

If used SGPro is really for 600 then buy it , just look at No Greater Love footage ,its amazing.

Lens is actually pretty important too , i have 2 lenses , one 1.8 pentacon and other one is some 2.0 and doesnt give as good results as pentacon which gives me nice sublte purple/violet colour to footage.
Here are some pics from the same lens as mine

its photo not adapter footage but characteristics are basically the same ,you can check many lenses this way and pick the best for your eye.

Well, it seems like they go for $600 at the cheapest. One went for $650 recently on the Marketplace here. I haven't seen one since. The SGPro is my number one choice.

Also pick 50mm lens , mine isnt as sharp cause ive seen tests comparision with other lenses but is ok for me ,It also naturally loses sharpness because of focusing screen of adapter. So its kinda normal but i think getting as sharp lens as you can is always better.
