Is this good for the price?

I need to purchase natural fill lighting for the company I work for that anybody can use, so that means:

It needs to run cool
It needs to pump out enough light
it needs to be diffused enough
It needs to be continious lighting

This is for around the office still photography and basic presenter videos.

I came across the following at amazon and though it might do the trick. The only concern I have is the color temprature mixing with the office lights. Are these going to look like daylight? If so, I'm ok with having two color temperatures (daylight and office lights) but I don't want it to look like some other kind of indoor balanced color temparature.

Let's see

1. Run Cool = Fluorescent or LED (this is neither)

2. Pump out enough light. How much is enouch? How many lumens/footcandles do you need?

3. This is inversely proportional to #2. So the distance of light-to-subject needs to be understood.

4. Well, we've got that much at least.

You've got way more issues to solve than color temperature mixing. And I am going to go out on a limb here and say your likely aren't going to find a lighting fixture, stands, and bulbs for less than the price of what a good piece of diffusion would cost.

How much money do you have for this purchase?

Unfortunately, I own those lights you posted, they suck ass. Crappy setup, crap quality, just don't buy them.

Your best bet might be to get a used tota light or DP light, a softbox and a reflector. Nice soft key light, fill light, whatever you need it to be, for around $300. This option of course will not run cool(I'm guessing you're talking heat wise?). You can get either daylight or tungsten bulbs and if you need to correct the color temp, pick up the proper gel sheets to correct to whatever temp you may need.

Perrone, these are listed as florescent. I need it to pump out and be diffused as much or more than a 500W rifa softbox.

DM, what makes these crap quality (I am assuming you are talking about the quality of the light it produces)

Do you have any good links for at least a two light kit for under 300? (prefferably around 200)

The build quality is junk, they're plastic and cheap. Plus, getting the softboxes on them is a huge pain. Also, carrying around 10 fluorescent bulbs isn't good for run and gunning.

A 2 light kit for under $300 is most likely going to be garbage. If you're looking for a good setup for interviews, get a used tota light for $50 with a photoflex softbox for $200, and some foamcore board. You get a key light and fill all out of one light and it's quick and easy to setup, and it produces nice light.

DM, I'd substitute that Tota for a DP, but otherwise we are in agreement. A decent light stand will be half the cost of this "package".

Ya, DP would be more suitable, plus you can buy a variety of different bulbs. You could even buy a used tota, DP, speed ring and softbox and still be under $300 if you find some good deals on ebay.

OK you guys talked me out of those cheap florescent type kits. Morox thanks for the links, I am liking those lights. Can anyone else give these lights a thumbs up? Whats better octogon softbox or the rectangal softbox? Normally I know octogons are more expensive because they have a better wrap around but they are the same price so I'm thinking they are limiting in some other way.

I think I'll include 1 light, stand and softbox in the proposal for now and when I have to make a video proposal I will pick up another one and a hair light. When I order the kit that comes with a softbox and light, do I just need a stand or do I need some bracket also?

I can believe these aren't as good quality as lowel lights but honestly the build doesn't need to be a workhorse or great quality in this case. I just need something simple and gets the accasional job done because right now my team has nothing.

Just remember, you get what you pay for

Try telling that to the store I pre-ordered my 5d II back in the beggining of december from....

Try doing a search for amvona on here. You will see past posts with some people praising them. I have two of their softboxes and am happy with them. They will do you fine.
