Letus Extreme in Storesin the US?

Hi Everybody

Thank you to the people that helped me with my last issue with my time lapse incomplete file. I have another question to throw at the form, feel free to jump in if you know anything about this.

My father is on a business trip and is in the US at the moment, he is stopping by multiple cities here are there, Washington at the moment then he is off to Huston, then Boston, LA and finaly Chicago.

I know that the Letus extreme seems to be a specialty online product but sometimes like in Dubai where I live people order rare stuff and put them on the shelves. Whether it is legit or not well that's a different topic.

I would like to get a Letus extreme asap and am worried that to order one will take too long and get stuck in customs or have other problems. I wonder if any of you know of a store in the US that sells Letus extreme kits? and where are those stores located?

We have a shoot next week and have few options to choose from here. The Letus seems like the most solid buy atm.

Its probably a long shot but hey.

If you know of anywhere please let me know. :)

Cheers Everyone

Thanks Huv Vu. I just checked out the Zacuto site and there is allot of cool stuff available. Is it cool tho? would you recommend their products and is it worth picking up a support system from them for the Letus extreme or are their better options. They have some interesting mounts for DSLRs also.

What do you think of their Indie shoulder mounting kits for the HVX pluss adapter?

Is it worth the money and will it be flexible enough to slap on a tripod if im sick of holding the camera?

Im considering investing in the canon 5d mark 2 and it looks like allot of the acesories in the Indie kit for the HVX camera would work with the DSLR is this the case?

If there is any other stores arround those cities listed all keep posting. But thank you Huv Vu I had no idea those guys had all of that available. Is the store full of the stuff when you walk in? Im considering calling them but I dont know the international code to get intouch eeek.

Cheers

Hey Youngun

Give the guys at Zacuto a call and I'm sure they can help you build a package that fits your needs well. Zacuto's camera support gear is some of the best made and its backed up by a great lifetime warranty. If the cost isnt a problem I'd definitely reccommend going for the Zacuto stuff over any other brand. I've got a full rig and love it - the stuff is amazing. Had it for almost a year now and it just doesnt stop. Makes my job alot easier when I'm not having to worry about gear failing. Oh and the country code is +1 for the US. Give Steve a call and tell him Jeff Anderson sent you over - Steve will take great care of you and help you get everything figured out +1-312-863-3451

Thanks Jeff

I am liking the computability of the items and the quick release stuff looks slick. I'm wondering if the Indie kit will be able to be modded to fit the RED camera as well as my HVX so that the company I'm with can utilize it for bigger RED shoots. If not no worries but the price would be even more justified if it had that kind of compatibility. I dont see how this wouldnt fit our RED cheeseplate. The problem may be the sheer weight of the RED.

I have emailed Zacuto and will await their response. If no luck then Il call them.

Thanks Again Jeff

I really dont know the RED that well but alot of those parts should transfer just fine. I believe Zacuto has a second screw for the baseplate that allows it to attach to the RED just fine. Run that by the guys at Zacuto and they'll get it figured out. Looking at the RED setups from Zacuto they look to be using alot of the same parts as in the indie kit - the weight shouldbnt be an issue at all. http://www.zacuto.com/RED.htm The only drawback to Zacuto is the initial price but when you figure you're only buying once its not all that much.

So far the thing concerning me the most is the price. I will pay money for something if it is worth it, and if I know its worth it. But not being able to touch, try and incorporate something before buying is tough for me. Im sure the products are great and the price would melt away into the distance once you start achieving the shots your were always hoping it would enable you to capture but yeah, currently costing more than my camera. I will need to prioritize what I need now as apposed to what would be great to have in the future.

Im thinking Il go for a standard Letus Elite HVX mounting kit with baseplate and rods. The follow focus is too expensive for me to buy now. I imagine that when im using primes on the Letus that I will use the supports provided by the rental company and an Arri follow focus so im not too worried about that at the moment.

So far so good tho, looks like they will be able to service my needs as far as my father collecting the package.

Im going to research some other support solutions, but id imagine I would have to be most carefull about these foundation pieces of an ultimatly bigger more expensive setup

My current HVX system seems pretty crippled at the moment. I only have 8gb of on board storage and I think that I should be spending my money on storage. Im not totaly comfortable with the firestore. But it seems to be the most cost effective.

If I was to get the Letus Elite, would it be wise to get the Zacuto support system for it or is it just as nice to get the Letus rods and supports. They seem much cheeper and I will get used to using the adapter in the mean time.

I hate buyers remorse. I would like a 35mil adapter with PL mount. I know the letus is the best for the money. But without good storage I cant record anything nice anyway. Is it a nice idea to have a normal PC hard drive in a case, plug in the firewire from the camera. Dump the footage onto that portable drive and back it up on the computer. This would take time on set tho and would halt production while copying every 8 minutes. I could get a 64gb card but then I would have to wait 64 mins to dump it to a hard drive when done.

Crossroads ahead of me. Help :)
