"Stick it the freezer and see how long it runs. Seriously. Beats having to find out it doesn't run on a mountain top. Then stick it in an oven at 110 degrees. See if it can handle desert heat for an hour. Turn the steam up in your shower and see how long it runs in the bathroom."
I should done that with my wife - before we got married - would have saved a lot of problems!
Seriously though that's pretty awesome. Did you try that with a P+S Technic... a Red?
BTW One other test is to look at how it handles the sky.
My reason for wanting to test with the video camera wide open is not only accuracy of exposure, but also in my work I always have to work at low light levels and its a huge cost issue if you need to stop down. Also for me - 2.8 on the 35mm lens because most zooms are 2.8 and the adapters speed may be quite different than it is at 1.4. It is a time sink to do too many tests though - (or spend too much time on these boards I might add.)
When the Letus first came out on the Ex-1 there all kinds of reports here about how great it was and how incredibly sharp. On that basis I bought it and through it up on a chart and it absolutely sucked wide open - but nobody including Phil Bloom had caught it or mentioned it. It needed to be at f8 to get center to corner sharpness!!!!! I'm glad I tested before taking it on a shoot.
Subsequently and quickly Letus came out with new achromat that fixed it quite well. But I just ran across a friend using his Letus Ex-1 combo who didn't know about the new achromat. He hadn't noticed the problem yet - and I emphasize yet because it would have bit him eventually.
Tim is right in that most of these sub $2K adapters have been pretty flimsy in the past but they keep getting better with each new version. It's great that he'll playing soccer with his Blade - I await the results.
