Anyone see the Golden Globes tonight. Steven Spielberg was honored with the Cecil B DeMille Lifetime achievement award. He was introduced by Martin Scorsese

Well, Everything was great.... Mr. Spielberg made a wonderful speech with a great story.

What was incredible was a compilation of Mr. Speilberg's work. Was about a 3 or 4 minute tribute of past work. This amounted to be Steven Speilbergs "Reel" Pretty Amazing!

What was his speech? "I've sold my soul for obscene amounts of money"? What did they show on his reel? Indiana Jones? Jaws? Really amazing stuff, man.

Spielberg's a hack.

Geez,

You sound like one of the 300 + people that got **** canned from Paramount / DW, post annulment.

BTW Who **** in your film stocking? Did ET give you nightmares?

I am an actor.
I am an entertainer.
Motion pictures are a form of entertainment.
A moving picture.
Oooh.
Aaah.
Mr. Spielberg's films are VERY entertaining, and often tell a story that is interesting and wraps you up into the escapism of it all.
He is masterful at his craft and knows his stuff.

Get over yourself.

I love Stephen Spielberg films. They tell stories. They are well made films. They take you into a world you don't know, present you with ideas and really sell those ideas to you. To the guy who called Spielberg a hack, you're entitled to your opinion, sure. But how does making really cool "mainstream" films make you a hack? Why do you have to be called a sell out if you make films you like making?

I'd much rather watch Indiana Jones over some pretentious art house film any day of the week.

Go Spielberg!

Spielberg's a hack.

What about Schindler's List, Munic or Band of Brothers??? You know, those hack type movies...

GoodLuck, you can watch it on youtube, the video in the link posted earlier has been removed, but if you do a search on youtube you can watch it there.

Go Spielberg!

I'm new here, but I definitely agree with chris.

Spielberg has shown time and time again his impressive versatility ranging from popcorn flicks like Indiana Jones to more serious films like Schindler’s List. I mean I can understand why some would still overlook him as a true artist because of his influence in spawning the blockbuster. Yet even in his popcorn films, they always ways had much more going on beneath the surface.

Lets use War of the Worlds for example, without getting wanky here. Theres a scene where Ray Ferrier blows up the alien tripod with the grenade to save his daughter. I mean you could see it as another finely directed action set piece, but that would be unfairly dismissing the context that Spielberg wants to present it as. It's just another example of Spielberg’s protagonist facing a daunting emotional and psychological challenge, where Ray pushed to defend himself and protect the ones he loves. By overcoming these challenges it allows Ray to shed the whole 'man-child' persona and truly emerge into adulthood.

It's not always about the spectacle with Spielberg!

I think Spielberg is a far more intelligent filmmaker than most critics appreciate. His skills in artistically weaving strong narrative and themes with technical wizardry make him one of the most significant directors working today. Besides unlike a lot of mainstream directors, Spielberg actually (well most of the time) delivers great films.

He's not a hack!

Whoa, okay I said quite a bit haha. But hey, thats just my opinion :)
