What happened to the VidLED?

Good to see you are making an aluminum casing. I dont know about any one else but my plastic case cracked in a bunch of spots.

Yeah mine too...I was shocked to see that after watching the video of a guy slamming in on concrete with no damage.

How did you repair yours?

I am thinking about epoxying the whole thing.

So do I wait for this light to become available or assume that it may be 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years until I can actually trade cash for a light?

All you have to do is look at history...

HVX200 release - slated for Dec 2005, but did not ship in significant quantities until Spring 2006
Red Rock Micro Mattebox - was not released for almost a year after it was initially announced
RED - all models, final delivery date is a moving target, nobody knows exactly when you will be able to buy a Scarlet or Epic because "dates and prices subject to change. Count on it".

I would not count on VIDled being available until they actually have them up for ordering on their web page. Hoping it is January but who knows?

D

What I don´t understand is that there aren´t more alternative "brick style" LED lights on the market...
I would also like to see an internal, but removable powering solution, like in the LPmicro.
Cameralight, Oncamera Shotgun, two wireless recievers, Mattebox with rails - all this makes our wonderfull small cams bigger and clumsier, I don´t want to add another HVXstyle battery or Tekkeon battery pack to that...

Have you seen the SWIT light? It is popular in Europe, we are getting one in for evaluation, will be offering soon.

That´s why I said "brick style", I like the larger surface of the LP or Vidled...
My experience with SWIT havn´t been that good so far though, the LCD is bad and the batteries so so...

The original Vidleds had a metal casing.
I just came back from a shoot in Florida where we relied on one of those quite a bit (I'd actually never used one before). I have to say, I don't doubt that the one we were using could stand up to some serious abuse - the thing feels like a tank.

vidleds really need to offer a solution for attaching filters...

This third party solution worked just fine for me....

gaffers tape :)

I had contacted vidled after i noticed all the cracks and they said it was normal for that case design due to the plastic they were using at that time.

My wife would take exception to that statement! :)

The cracks were indeed a result of the type of plastic we used.

The alu housings look SWEET!
We also remade our own shoe mount adapters; they are looking spiffing too.

We're gearing up for a decent production run. All going well.

Well, we're making them now.

Should have at least a few for sale soon, as in 3 weeks, but those will be gobbled up fast, I'm sure.

And no, I apologize, there's no list to get onto.

I will announce it here first...

FROM VIDLED.com:

January 19, 2009:

We have new housings now, and are currently making new VIDLEDs. The new housings are made from Aluminum, and are VERY nice.

Dimensions and look are similar. We can start shipping units by February!

We'll try and update the website soon...

I've sent them two emails in the past two weeks and gotten zero response. (And I don't even need the lights, just some random parts.)
