Where do you buy cheap c stands?

I'd like to buy 2 c stands but like everything else, they're pretty expensive. Anyone know here to get a really good deal, or where to buy second hand?

THANKS! :)

Wait until a massive production comes to town. And steal some out of the back of the Panavision Grip Truck. They don't watch it.

But there is a site that has a bunch of cheap second hand stuff. I am on my friends laptop now. I won't be back till friday morning - but if someone doesn't post the site by then, I'll let you know.

EDIT: http://www.pyramid-films.com/c_stands.htm

I remembered it. :)

They really don't! A tv crew came to shoot some science thing at my highschool a few weeks back, and they left their cart of scrims and c-stands out in the hall, right as the bell rang for lunch too! If i didn't have those damn ethics and morals, I would have had a few new scrims=]

thanks Matt, Horsefilms managed to to pm me the same suggestion, and sure enough they're offering used Norms at 2 for $150 :) I sent them an email.

Has anyone purchased from them before? Where are they located? Do they ship? and if so how are their shipping fees? I couldn't find any of this info on their page.

thanks again

Thanks Chris, those are a much better deal, however I ended up buying two 40" Norms w/ arms for for $216 after tax and shipping. Assuming they get here in intact, I consider that a success :)

That's a good deal I think if they're new. Today I got 2 used norms and it was $172 after tax. They're in great shape though. Got them in Burbank.

The BEST and cheapest stands around come from Amvona. I get compliments on them all the time. Air cushioned.. better than Mathews and they were cheap.. Brand new for like 70 bucks. I'd put them up against anything out there.. and they are half the price... cheers

Check Craigslist in your local area, sometimes someone just needs to unload their stuff and you get some good deals.

i've heard this before, but they dont offer c stands on their site, where are you supposed to find them?

Hi Justyn:

You realy like the Amvonas? I was at a studio in October and they had a few and I found them to be really bad. All of the castings on the fittings were rough and un-plated with nubs of sharp metal on the edges, they were non-standard in size and in working with them, I just found them very sub-par. The ones I worked with seemed to be new also, they weren't thrashed.

We own 20 C-stands, a mix of Matthews, Norms and American. Hands down, the American grip gear is the best on the market. This will sound dumb but their tie-down handles are amazing, they spin like they are on bearings and the hand grip design is like a comfortable handgun grip. Have you used name brand ones before? I find most people who dig the Amvonas have not used brand name ones (a lot of still photgraphers seem to use them), much like most people who think that their Bogens are good tripods have not used a real tripod like a Panther, Sachtler, O'Connor or Vinten. I guess if you can really get a new Amvona stand with a 40" arm for $70.00 that is amazingly cheap, but when I am using my C-stands fully extended to hold a heavy wall of Duvetine or a crossbar of Speedrail with three 650s on it, I really want the best C-stands that money can buy holding that mess up. The Amvonas I used were awfully imprecise and kind of crudely made.

No disrespect intended, I was just surprised that anyone really likes the Amvonas. I used to hear that you could get them on Ebay REALLY cheap, like $90.00 including a grip head and 40" arm, but the last I checked, most of them were selling more in the range, once you included shipping, that you could buy brand name. The last Norms I bought, I got three of the 40" with 40" arms and the removable turtle bases new for $160.00 ea. The Americans are more than that but worth it. Sorry, guess I have a C-stand fetish ;-)

Best,

Dan
