Help 60i in a 23.97 timeline, premiere pro

I filmed a soccer game on my dvx at 60i imported it into premiere pro on a 23.97 timeline to slow-mo.

No matter what settings I use to export I get interlacing.

I've exported at 23.97, 24, 29.97, 30, 60 with no luck.

It took me about 4 hours to edit this video, please tell me there is a way I can de-interlace it without having to re-capture from the tape, change the timeline settings, and edit it all over again....

I've de-interlaced on the time line and in the export settings with no luck I still get lines...

do tell...cuz i am having interlacing issues. i shot in 24pa edited on 24p timeline and its interlaced when i export. but it shudnt be cuz i shot in progressive right?? duno how to get rid of it...at first i thought it wasnt but on closer inspection it really iz
 
i did...i'm using ppcs3 and it says " field order progressive"...well this is all the settings

format :Mpeg2 dvd
range: work area
preset : ntsc 23.976 wide screen high quality

export audio and video
frame rate 23.976
tv standard ntsc
Field order :none (progressive)
Pixel aspect ratio :widescreen
and bit and GOP settings under that (not really sure what all that means though but i havent touched it).

And not only iz it interlaced but the audio doesnt play either when iplay it back in media player. I want to burn a dvd to test it out...so i played the edited footy in media player but no audio and its interlaced.

After rendering the video and audio files are separate in the folder and its now a wave file but it was an mp3 that i placed in the timeline. is this normal for them to be separated? and how do i fix it so the audio will play? In the audio section i tried pcm and mpeg format but neither worked. i really was just testing to see what would work cuz i;m not sure what these settings do. Any help wud be appreciated.

if your not exporting to dvd, don't make an mpeg2. Try a different file format and get back to me and tell me if it works or not.
 
actually thats the goal...to burn 2 a dvd. i dont hav a prob when exporting to the net...i use h.264. well actually its still interlaced but no prob with the sound i meant
 
damn...can you post a screenshot of the export options for your mpeg 2?


edit: wait, this may sound stupid, but are you removing the pulldown when you are bringing in the footage for editing?
 
well i use ppcs3, to my understanding it does that automatically so just drag and drop...gona see if i can post the screenshot

For slow motion, slow the footage down to 40% and it should deliver smooth playback. Anything else will be stuttery and may be interlaced.

I imported the 60i footage into a 23.97 timeline and edited it with frame blend off, and in field options I turned on "always deinterlace" and I turned off reverse field dominance.

Then when I was done edting all I did was set field options to none, so no deinterlace in the timeline.

When I exported I went into settings>keyframe and rendering> then I turned on deinterlace video footage.

I exported as 23.97 and the footage had no interlacing.
 
Thanks for the advice Daygola, I did slow down certain parts to almost 20%.

I however did get some ok slow motion footage, and I figured out how to get rid of the interlacing.

Here's what I did.
I imported the 60i footage into a 23.97 timeline and edited it with frame blend off, and in field options I turned on "always deinterlace" and I turned off reverse field dominance.

Then when I was done edting all I did was set field options to none, so no deinterlace in the timeline.

When I exported I went into settings>keyframe and rendering> then I turned on deinterlace video footage.

I exported as 23.97 and the footage had no interlacing.

Jmabredz I watched your video, I could see interlacing at :55 and you still had interlacing after that. In full screen mode on vimeo it was impossible not to see it, however in the window mode it was hardly noticeable except at :55.


Try my export settings and hopefully they will work for you. Then again you shot at 24pa right? and I shot my footage at 60i so you would need different settings.

The reason he says 40% is because that's where the 60i time samples match the 24p time samples.

60i is comprised of 60 fields per second. That's 60 exposures per second, 60 separate moments in time. They're half-pictures, fields, but they represent individual moments, individual movements.

24p is comprised of 24 frames per second. That's 24 exposures per second, 24 separate moments in time.

If you slow the 60i footage down to 40% on a 24p timeline, you match each 60i moment in time with a 24p moment in time. That being the case, all that needs to be done in order to render is to fill in the missing parts of the picture, as the 60i field is only half of a picture.

If you use any other speed, the moments in time, the time samples, don't match up. In order to get smooth motion, Premiere can't just fill in the rest of the field to make a frame -- it has to use information from multiple fields in order to get the movement smooth, instead of just the one.

THAT'S where interlacing and other render artifacts are most at risk of coming into play. It's mashing different fields together instead of just filling in a single field. You may end up with interlacing, ghosting, any number of visual oddities as a result.

So, 60i on a 24p timeline, for slomo, should be at 40%.
