Samsung HL67A750

Sad Max

Artful Dodger

Just brought one home, from Fry's in Canoga Park. 67" of LED DLP HDTV happiness. At least, once I have an actual HD signal source, in hand (replacing the 42" Sony Videoscope RS projector).

Got it off the truck, through the door, up the stairs and into the living room, single-handed.

Now there's a sense of accomplishment. There was just a split second, there, where it looked like the coroner's report was going to read something along the lines of "fatal compressive and crush injuries by large-screen television."

Now I could have DVXers over for movie nights, without feeling embarrassed by my equipment.

67" interesting, where the hell do you put it or hang it??? hahaha I have a 26" and I'm pretty happy, so I can't even imagine a 67" tv.....

Wow. 67"! Movie night at Karl's!

Impressive getting it up the stairs alone. I've got a 42" plasma that almost killed me one day. Have since moved to projectors. Much easier to move :)

I was seriously thinking about a projector setup instead, but the geometry of the room, placement of windows, and having to screw around with installing a retractable screen kind of decided me in favor of a direct-view unit.

Was originally going to pick up the 72" Samsung but noticed that the specs are actually not as good for my purposes, making the extra $$$ kind of pointless. And the 5" difference in diagonal size didn't seem all that big a deal, either.

Yeah the projector thing has its drawbacks. I love mine, but many a days I wish I just had an LCD or something on the wall. Windows are a *****. Mainly gets used at night though and the screen is permanent. Convinced the wife its "art" :) And 67" is still freaking huge! Like really huge... Not even sure if that would fit in my van...

Didn't fit in or on any vehicle I own. Borrowed one of my brother-in-law's trucks; he owns a grip/lighting company so fortunately he's well-equipped for moving big heavy things around.

Fry's stocks consoles big enough to support up to the 72" models; alas they're all plate glass and dark steel tube and not suited to our living room, at all. So the Samsung will most likely rest on the floor or possibly this big 'ol wooden bench we have, until I can find a suitable long-tern base.

For about $100 and up you can get wall-mount brackets for screens in this size range, although I haven't yet looked at the back of the Samsung to see if it's intended to hang on a bracket. Hanging it would be nice; more floor space plus no worrying about it toppling in the next earthquake.

Didnt ever think about the earthquake possibility. That could be bad... Yeah I like the wall mount too for the space saving. Gives it a nice clean look too. The cables are a pain. Been cutting a couple of holes in the dry wall for my last couple of installs. Not exactly to code but it gets the job done.

The blu-ray player arrived Monday, and the Blade Runner umpty-disc-every-version-to-date box arrived today...so instead of cleaning up around the house I wound up watching Blade Runner, the latest cut, for the first time, in blu-ray, which in 24P movie mode was very much like seeing it projected, again.

Now the Samsung is properly christened.

Or deflowered.

Take your pick.
