Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy Thread

That's why people like me are/were called 'sidemen'.

Yeah, I play the bass and whenever I'm on stage, I'm crammed behind our rhythm guitarist and beside the drums, that's what I prefer.

The band was never the same. Sure Hagar did a respectable job, but come on... David Lee Roth made Van Halen.

Totally. I mean how can you top this.....

The thing that makes bands iconic is when the summation of their parts forms a fascinating entity of it's own, not just the front person. The front person is just the face of that entity.. which is to say a prominent feature. Axl was and is no different than DLR in VH. GnR without Slash is no different than VH without DLR, still interesting, still talented, but the utter fascination is gone.

You know, when you hear a band and think "wow that's just magical, a force." These are the bands where one can focus on any of the elements at almost any given time and they're essential. Jim Morrison without Kreiger or Manzerek? Densmore, maybe.. but then there's more to drums than just being another part. Drums hold it all together. Can I get a Neil Peart? Rush is actually a good example love them or hate them... any one part at any time is essential to getting the plane off the ground so to speak.

I've only heard a couple releases off this one so far but I was surprised. I wasn't "fascinated" by any stretch, but that's a lot to ask. I still don't know what the hell the deal is with that Buckethead dude. Axl canned him, right? Probably a good move, but the dude is interesting in a freak show way. I could spend half a day checking you tubes of bucket head (I did one day actually -a couple years back) and be more interested in that than Chinese Democracy. Now, a documentary on the making of CD... now that could have made some serious coin.

I've listened to a little bit of this on MySpace and wasn't going to comment, but I guess I will. It's not BAD...definitely not the same as it used to be, kind of like old GnR with a modern twist.

Hey...things could be worse...you could be me.

I never heard GnR or Nirvana until this past year.

Seriously.

Well...I did here the mix of Teen Spirit and Bootylicious once. Does that count? And the Weird Al version. But never the real one until about 8 months ago.

As for GnR? Rose's voice annoys me at times, but you get used to it.

Not overwhelmingly impressed by either.

Now, Five Finger Death Punch...that's what I want for Christmas. :)

It received good reviews from Rolling Stones and EW weekly.

I still like the album surprisingly a lot regardless of any review. Maybe I'm just a die hard Axl fan?

Roth and Eddie and Halen as a group are still in my all time top 10 R&R hall of fame.
And Eddie always has that big smile on his face, haha.

There must be some good new bands out there? I've heard a couple. Mad at Gravity ( Burn...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HleKcGirLrwhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-KHDRPh9es) , maybe dated now, some hip hop but I'm not getting the big ones. Any good hard 'new' bands? Most names I hear I have never heard of. Any links of new good hard rock bands with at least 4 albums out?
(I say 4 albums because I don't want to be bombarded by people with bad taste, lol. Yeah, I went there. :) )

I have to say I've heard Chinese Democracy, and liked parts of it, but its not the same GNR. I would have liked it better if Axl would have just went solo. No one has said anything about Izzy. To me he wrote or co-wrote some of GNR's best songs( Sweet child of mine, Patience, Don't Cry) and even sang on some(14 Years, Dust and Bones) when Gnr lost Izzy thats when they went to crap. IMO
