USA bought Sennheiser G2 use in China

I have a Sennheiser G2 wireless mic system (freq. A) that I bought here in California. I am doing a doc that will take me to Japan, Germany and Spain, but primarily Beijing. Does anyone know if I can use the system in China without getting in trouble? I will also have a shotgun mic for outside and a hyper for inside, but am bringing the wireless just in case.

Thanks!

I do not know anything about the leagality of using radio mics in China, but I have used them twice (Sony) there with no problems. Just try not be too obvious. It might also be worth deviding the gear between people entering the country, one is a video hobbyist, another has sound collecting as a hobby (if there are more than you travelling). Lumping everything together in one Pelican case screams PRO VIDOGRAPHERS to the customs officials, and doing video officially in China means getting journalist visas, liason officer, post sencorship and 10 times the cost of going stealth.

Technically, that freq band is not legal in Europe (don't know what's legal in China). But if you are discreet, you might be okay. The other issue is finding available frequencies. You might have a problem with that, depending on what is taking up those frequencies where you will be shooting, since they are not put aside for wireless mics.

Thanks to both of you, very helpful! Totally right on the stealth mode. Another reason why the HPX170 was a great choice for me.

Since Sennheiser has subsidiaries in China, I'd guess "some" of their frequencies (Band A, B, and/or C) are authorized in China. Incidentally, I often teach internationally on cruise ships and can assure you that port-side the ships all feel free to use their entertainment wireless transmitters at every country. That said, we still should make every effort to comply with local regulatory directives. For instance, you wouldn't want to be filming at an airport and find your indiscriminate transmitter usage fouled up airline communication or guidance! So if you feel lucky and just "do it" in a foreign country, wear your Nike running shoes and be ready to hit the road "pronto" when you see the authorities bracking you with their directional radio sniffers!

Here's a China frequency allocation chart that may be helpful.
