Australian actor Hugh Jackman is the surprise choice to host next year's Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed overnight.

A spokeswoman for the Academy confirmed 40-year-old Jackman would front the awards show at the Kodak Theatre on February 22, breaking with a long-held tradition of having comedians or comic actors as hosts.

ok, hosting is not a problem, the problem is,....is he funny?

we got so used to comedians and comic actors that presenting the oscars without throwing something funny will be,....kinda weird,....and hum....boring,.....or will it?

I am stoked.

The last several hosts have been the jokes themselves.

I've said for years that Billy Crystal should of been written a blank check to host till he's 80...

But I am a big fan of Jackman's. He is a hell of an actor and waaaay underrated. He'll bring class back to the event (and not a moment too soon!)

Yes? NO?

I actually thought Jon Stewart did a great job last year. However, I agree with Callaghan...I can really imagine Hugh Jackman bringing a bit of class to the event.

I loved the comedian angle...Crystal, DeGeneres, Martin, Goldberg, Stewart, etc. But something about the suave tux approach appeals to me...I'm curious...
