Teen Texting and Driving

It's a real good idea but I don't know why somebody who doesn't want the ability to talk or text in the car would pay $50 + a monthly fee for that. I can only see parents purchasing that for their teenagers.

edit - D'oh! I guess it is only meant for parents to buy for their kids.

How the HELL does the phone know when it's an emergency?

Robbie

Probably the same way a locked phone can still dial 911. If you have 911 Emergency Services. Take your cellphone and dial in 911. Most will switch automatically to a red screen and say "emergency call" some models don't. But any deactivated cell phone, including ones without SIM cards can still dial 911.

So this probably works the same way. Just with incoming numbers from a parents phone, and outgoing to predetermined numbers.

I would never use one of these. Or buy one. I don't want an independent company knowing my driving record. Because I do speed here and there. And how is the system going to determine if one is passing another vehicle or just speeding for fun? I suppose each situation is illegal though...

The main problem with the concept is the limits placed upon its application.

This ought to be standard equipment in every car on the road, regardless of the driver's age.
