What happened to the VidLED?

I have been bugging them for almost a year, they always just reply back, "we should be receiving some new housings in 2-3 months", then I e-mail them two to three months later and they say essentially the same thing. I would personally say that they decided that they don't want to be in the business of manufacturing lights, they are a production company as well I think so they probably are producing stuff.

Manufacturing and retail is tough and not really that creative generally. You see people like Fjordland and Luis (the Carrion guy) who have great ideas and are capable of making great products but at heart, they are not serious about it because they are also in production. Most people who are serious about the products have to do it 24/7 to succeed. It's a totally different mindset than production.

I offered to provide tooling services to mold the housings in the US, I own an injection molding company in Maryland. Received an email back and they seemed interested, but no follow-on information. Real nice product would have liked to help.

I often drift off with plannings on taking a DIY project to a commercial level.
But I also know, things like these just can´t be done as a "side project".
But fortunately other people take on the challenge...

That was decent of you to offer but given the lack of response I wonder if housings are the real issue.
At this point they should just pull the website down.

I liked the product, saw it had a lot of positive feedback and I am familiar with people having issues with overseas tooling and production, especially small quantity (relative term). I got a positive initial response but no follow-on. So I believe you might be correct. Housings I would think are easy relative to the guts of the unit. Shame, liked what they had.

What's a VIDLED?

Oh, yeah, right, I almost forgot! :)

We're still here, and working on getting production back.
Again, thanks take13production for offering the tooling assistance.

After the original company lost our injection mold tool, and after much consideration,
we scrapped the idea of going with plastic again (we had used a special ABS/PC blend).
The new ones are made out of aluminium (aluminum).

Dimensions and look are almost the same, although now they will be black anodized.
They have 60 instead of 52 LEDs now (the middle gap is filled with 8 more LEDs) and
we're striving for an increase in brightness of the coolLED version of about 20% to 25%.
Sorry, attachment of gels is still the same, although we are also working on selling a
low-cost and effective solution for that - first priority is getting the lights out though.

Since we had such a hiatus and because we did disappoint many customers and potential
customers with not being able to deliver product, we will probably come back with a
special re-intro price. Something like 20% off for the first month or something like that.

It looks like the DELUXE version (with built-in battery pack) will be eliminated form the line-up,
as they were simply too labour intensive to produce, and were more a product of ART than
science to squeeze all that in the tiny housing.

So, yeah, we're still here, we're still in business, and we're about to come back with new products....

Cheers, y'all...

EDIT: added pic of new (sample cast) alu housing, anodized in black

Cool - glad to see you guys coming back. At 20% off I'll probably be picking up a few more. Great little lights to just hide places. Will the normal costs be about the same as before even with a switch to the Al housing?

Oh, yeah, sorry: although there IS an increase in cost for us to make the housing out of alu and anodize it instead of plastic, the regular sale price should be the same (final calculation not made yet, but I don't foresee any probs at this point).

Boy am I glad to have bought my two Deluxe's from a fellow DVXUser. I haven't seen any for sale since and they've been put to quite a lot of use on a few projects...

Good to see you're still alive and kicking...

Good to see you are making an aluminum casing. I dont know about any one else but my plastic case cracked in a bunch of spots.

VidLED:

So happy to hear that you are coming back, have been very eager to try to work in configuring a travel lighting kit with you. Will you still be working with the longer, larger lights you used to have as well?

Will the power increase only be for the CoolLED light or for the daylight as well?

Any idea of when you will re-introduce?

Thanks,

Dan

vidleds really need to offer a solution for attaching filters, this is my main problem with the Vidleds.
Would be great if this new promised solution would work for the old models too.
I also second the Pana Battery mount...

You're on to something there.
Maybe a bottom rail and two side rails on the front so you could slide a sheet in from the top?

- Filter/gel attachment is being worked on. High priority. Any mounting solution will work on existing product.

- DVX battery adapter is also something on the to-do list.

- DayLED's will only see marginal brightness increase, maybe 5%-10%.

- WarmLED's will probably be dropped from the line-up also. Were somewhat popular for weddings, but that's about it. A DayLED or CoolLED gelled will have to suffice.

- We're busy making them, should have them for sale in late January (the infamous 6 weeks!!!)
