Most disturbing movies you've seen?

When I saw Event Horizon (much younger than I am now) I was freaked out by it...that movie stuck with me for awhile. Watching it now and seeing some of the horror movies that have come since I guess it's kind of tame by today's standards, but in it's time it freaked me the hell out.

Yeah till this day I'm afraid to pop that movie in the DVD player.

The rape scene in "strange days" is not that graphic, clearly you've never seen "Irriversable" what that pimp does to Monica Beluchi, now that was disturbing. Also when they beat the guy with the fire extinguisher and crush his skull, I mean you can feel it.

Always wondered how they pulled that fire extinguisher scene off, I mean it's all in one take, that's a scene that needs to be studied.

And word of advice, don't ever watch that movie with a girl you don't know, she'll think you're just weird because of that rape scene... even if it's with a girl you do know that scene is just disturbing, great movie though.

You wanna be more freaked out? Pause and go frame by frame in some of those scenes. You won't believe some of the stuff that's in there.

In reply to the earlier post, I just saw "The Wicker Man" (the remake, not the original from the 70s or whenever it was) and I'd put it in the "movies I could have lived without seeing category." I mean.. cmon what a complete and total... utter rip off. The story had holes in it, the acting was kinda weak, and the ending was crap.

I'm still a little bit PO'ed about it actually. I want my time back. I don't mind dark endings now and then, but this one really was about as pleasant as a kick in the nutsack. There is no justice, no redemption of any kind, just credits. Very unsatisfying in just about every way.

The movies that disturb me most are those which leave me unsatisfied for whatever reason, so I guess this aptly belongs on the list.

Haven't any of you guys had dental work?
"Is it safe" to say that after 30 years Marathon Man still makes me cringe?

Yea but the rape scene in Strange days didint need to be graphic.... IT was what the girl was actually feeling... because of the brain scanner thing....

I was bored digging around old threads. Eraserhead and Requeim for a dream were very disturbing.

I saw Eraserhead recently at the Egyptian theater in Hollywood. I'd seen it before on my computer screen. MAN, what a difference. When you're watching it on the big screen like that, you think to yourself... man, David Lynch is one screwed up mother ****er...

"Mysterious Skin". if you haven't seen it, I'd highly recommend checking it out. It the only film I've ever actually come close to walking out of, and not because of any moral objections but just because I found it so affecting.

No way in hell I'm watching eraser head on a giant movie screen.:Drogar-Evil(DBG):
no way.

I've seen the movie, it blew. I've never met someone that enjoyed it in the 90 minute format, but this re-cut version makes it a great 10/10 well worth watching. An 11/10 if you already dislike Nic Cage.

When Nic Cage connects I think he's great -- Raising Arizona, Moonstruck, Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation. For everyone of those, though, there are two Con Air's.

I agree. It's when he tries to be a character is when he pretty much falls flat. Leaving Las Vegas was a great movie and I actually liked him in that one.

Raising Arizona seemed almost like the role was written specifically for him, he did such a good job.

For me, only movies where there is a villanous character that is completely believable. There are only two I can think of that had this effect:

Star 80: Eric Roberts' portrayal of the estranged husband/murderer of Playboy model Dorothy Stratten (true story).

Scarface: Al Pacino's character, mainly near the end when he goes into his coke-crazed murderous rage in the house.

In both of these, the actors were absolutely *oustanding* - too good for me - too believeble, so it was very disturbing because I believed in their profound cruelty *too much*. Make sense?

The Belluci rape scene in "Irreversible" was extremely disturbing for sure, but not in the same way for me. It disturbed me that the filmmakers and actors would ever film such a scene, but it didn't get to me realism-wise like the two others I did. I just saw it as irresponsible, excessively shocking filmmaking. Primarily I felt badly for the *people who did it*. The others truly disturbed me because I got completely drawn in to them *as if they were real*. Brrrr...

Otherwise, "scary" movies never really scare me. They shock me, and horrify me, but only in an "it's just a movie" way. It's the very rare ones that manage to take me into their twisted world lock stock and barrel that really creep me out. I honestly still wish I'd never seen the two movies I cited, and it's been many years since I did.

audition made me fear women. (eps cause i date asian women.)

Dude! That was off the chain! That was so wild. I almost went to sleep on it then suddenly everything went crazy.

Last few scenes of "Dead Silence" when we find out what the perfect doll is. The one that is semi-perfect is the one that's disturbing and you only see it for a second or two.

I see where you're coming from but I did enjoy the ride Wicker Man took me on. I thought it was funny and strange. And some scenes I did cheer Cage on even though it was totally funny. The ending did leave me cold but to see the two chicks back on the prowl again did make me realize, this was a horror film and the badguy does win sometimes. I could go for a sequel but they'd probably trap the next guy too. LOL. The last scene in the original actually was somewhat disturbing because they actually sang a jolly song as they burned this guy, plus it had religious overtones this film simply couldn't do nowdays.

I just saw "The Happening" the other night and it had some pretty gruesome scenes in it. Usually scenes like that don't bother me because they are usually wrapped in ridiculously unbelievable plots but this one was kind of eerie and pulled me in a bit. Also I wouldn't call them movies by any stretch, but the web beheading videos of recent years left me feeling nauseous for weeks and deeply regretting being unable to convince myself to pass on them.

I thought High Tension had some very disturbing scenes. Getting topped off by a severed head is something I had never seen before and it messed me up. And that piano on the stairs scene was gruesome. I actually enjoyed that film.

Suicide Club, I think it's called? It's a Japenese movie. insane. There is a scene where all these Japanese cheerleaders jump in front of a train, effing crazy.
