can Vegas open a FCP .mov file?

A friend is apparently trying to open a .mov in Vegas 8.0, that he says was created in FCP.

Anyhow, he says when he tries to open it, it opens as 2 audio files, but no video. I have no idea if his description is accurate, but that's what he tells me.

What are his options?

(I thought I read somewhere that Premiere Pro can open FCP files, but don't know exactly what that means)

thanks

Depends on the codec. Do you know what it is? (.mov is just a wrapper; it could be one of many codecs.)

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'll ask the guy, but I'm all but certain he'll have no clue. Maybe I can get him to ask whoever he got it from what codec they used when they rendered it.

thanks for the response!

Vegas should be able to open an HDV codec. But if it was AIC, forget it! I believe PC users can now open ProRes, but I need to look into that more.
