Quantum of Solace

I saw this a second time with my GF last night... I'm telling you, the best way to see any movie is during the week.

On Tuesday it was me and 15 people in the whole theater... GOLDEN SILENCE... and last night I had a nice looking, middle aged couple sit down next to me... I even thought to myself, hmm... the lady looks like Linda Evans ... but there's no judging a book by it's cover... because those MF'ers talked and commented on the movie for the first half... including laughing at stupid sh*t like "ha-ha-ha, he broke the doorknob off"... I can't believe how UN-self aware most people are... so it was, at that point... that I crossed my legs so that my foot was almost against the lady... and hunched over the armrest to totally invade her personal space... I was as much in her seat as my own... and for some reason that gave me the satisfaction I was looking for... every time she commented on the movie I got closer! *LOL* I had the idea to induce silence through discomfort... "who is this weirdo honey? he's in my seat..."

For the most part... it worked. The only thing I didn't do is put the armrest up and scootch over...

Also... would it be weird to put a sight on a laser pointer? I'd love to pop a dot on the phone of anybody who starts texting during a movie... the stupid screen pulls your eye into the darkness... I wish we could call them out in a way that wouldn't cause additional distractions... but would tell the PEOPLE "hey, you are ruining the movie".

I totally feel you! I actually think I'm cursed or something because I can't seem to go to a movie, even like a Tuesday night showing where there's only 5 people in the theater, without at least two of those people sitting close to me and talking throughout the entire film like it was their living room or something.

I've gotten so fed up with it I can't take it anymore, when it happens I start by noticeably staring right at them until they make eye contact, and then if that doesn't work or they're in front of me I'll say something about how rude it is to have to listen to their conversation instead of the movie. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, a few times when neither worked and the people were being especially obnoxious, I shouted "shut up" very loudly so everyone can hear, and once it was 3 times in 10 minutes, maybe a jerk move but sorry cause I was freaking heated. I'm even starting to get heated right now just thinking about this!

1 word children.. I had a kid kick me in a face at a harry potter movie... I love kids but sometimes theaters arent ever child.

Can anyone explain to me what the deal is with Vesper's Boyfriend? Going on the end of the film I'm assuming the Algerian Ex-Boyfriend arc is suppose to be the crux of Bond's journey in this one. But I have no idea what it's relevance is. It wasn't made clear in the film.

I enjoyed it it was like a true sequel fashion.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Lik Spidey says, great sequel and a much watch on DVD back to back with Casino Royale.

The opening sequence was definitely shaky cam hell and had me scratching my head at WHY WHY WHY this has permeated Hollywood; lacks any visual communication to the audience.

But

Great film, one of the best Bonds. Great action, a total revenge flick. Nothing terribly over the top (Considering it was Bond)

A superb cast. Have you ever seen a better cast for a Bond film ?

What's not too like about this film.

I'll own it.

I saw it last night. Honestly, I thought the villain was quite weak. And this really tainted the feel of the movie for me. I thought the location shooting was tremendous, and it was nicely shot. The shaky thing doesn't bother me much.

What I don't like about this bond, is that there is so little romance in him. And no humor at all. I am not looking for the comedic effects in the Roger Moore movies, but what I loved about the early Connery Bond movies was the way he was always so non-plussed. Brosnan had a lot of the same feel. I think Brosnan's Bond harkened back to the Connery, and I think the Craig Bond harkens back to the Dalton... and I didn't like those at all.

But be that as it may, a hero is only as good as the villian. And a short, dumpy guy who is as frail as this character is, really doesn't do it for me. I had the same issue with the Elliot Carver villian a few movies back. GoldenEye was MUCH better in that regard as the villians were quite powerful and had screen presence.

Just my feelings on it.

Vesper's "boyfriend" was really working for QUANTUM -- he'd get girls with high clearance to fall for him, then fake his own abduction to force them to give QUANTUM what they want in exchange for his return.

Since this guy was basically the reason that Vesper killed, Bond obviously had a motive to kill him. Yet he didn't (because he knew the guy was more valuable to M alive), and thus he proved that he could be trusted as a 00 agent.

A short, dumpy guy who Bond has trouble fighting after he took down several highly-trained MI6 agents in an elevator.

Good points on the humor -- the occasional one-liner would be nice.

But while I agree that Craig echos back to Dalton, I find that a good thing.

Exactly, rings hollow. The villian couldn't even manage to off the girl TWICE, but suddenly is game enough to give Bond a credible fight. Bond's battle with Onatopp and Cl. Kleb were even more believable.

Yes, or something. I think the only time he smiled in the entire film was the "love scene" with the British Field Agent. Come on, this is supposed to be entertaining. Too much Bourne, and not enough Bond.

But while I agree that Craig echos back to Dalton, I find that a good thing.

And some do. However, I would point out that Dalton was VERY poorly received by most Bond fans. It seems that quite a lot of them are women, or even men who like the romantic bond more than the hard-edged killer. It's a fine line to walk, and thus far I've like Connery's effort the best. Especially in Dr. No. "That's a Smith and Wesson, and you've had your six..."

Like if both casino royale and QOS were one film: awesome.

I totally agree. I saw it with my brother and he didn't think it was that good. I think that if you accept that a lot of this film is paying off what happened in Casino Royale you will enjoy it much more than if looking at it as merely a stand alone piece.

I dunno. This film just kind of sat there for me. I didn't hate it, but it didn't arouse me in any deep way. Bond's need for revenge was never made psychologically palpable for me. I understood it, but I didn't feel it, so I never got involved. They leaned on your knowledge of the previous film but didn't take any pains to make sure the audience reconnected with his angst. I like Craig, but by the end of this I started to see his take on Bond could get boring. He's like a painter using only two colors, whereas Connery used them all when necessary. If they are going to make Bond dark, they should go all the way and make him face some twisted moral choices with real psychological consequences. At the end of this I didn't feel like Bond had been through much emotionally. That's fine for old-school Bond, where he's just a cartoon Superhero, but not for what they are attempting here. Casino Royale was more successful I think because we saw Bond go through something personal. I feel like right now they are straddling the fence between a Jason Bourne film and a James Bond film but not fulfilling the needs of either.

I will say that they will probably benefit in the next film by trying to get away from the Bourne influence. Not in the sense that Bond's a darker character, but the overall style of the film needs to assert itself more as something unique. The camerawork and even some of the action set pieces were obviously inspired by the action in the Bourne trilogy.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed QoS. I just think that now, since this particular story thread is wrapped up it will give them some room to be bolder and not borrow as much stylistically from other action films.

I hope they don't go back to having too many gadgets and Q though.

Thank you Tony! Thank you! :dankk2: That makes far more sense now. It's not really a very complicated plot point, so I'm still at something of a loss as to how it eluded me. But at least it makes sense now!

Cheers

Just watched it I like the fact that this bond gets stuck in you actually see him get battered and he keeps killing people when he is meant to bring them in for questioning. This is a bond you can relate to in a sense where as the others always seemed a little too immortal. CR is my fav of all the Bond movies but its because of him. He has to be the most realistically humanly possible of all Bonds whilst still maintaining his sophistication, his flaws in perfection really is what defines him as the perfect bond and what ever story becomes his playground, its because he makes it entertaining to watch. QofS was different to CR, it is a film that had to be styled the way it was for the sake of validifying CR in my opinion. I would go see it again

...
You forgot the handcuffs. He was handcuffed when he took out the agents in the elevator.

I had to eat my hat on Casino Royale (it blew me away).

But this one?!
I wish I'd watched a Quantum Leap marathon rather than Quantum of Solace.
