SGblade Beta Tester Reviews & Feedback’

I've always wondered: what's the round metal part below the switch is for?

I assume the screw that's jutting out of the side of the unit is the focal plane hook. Looks like someone spent some time in Frankenstein's lab. lol

Can't wait for footage from rotorazor2!

The round metal part is a plug for the external battery pack, should you forget to charge the Blade up.

That screw is not on the final Blade...

Yep, that's the charging jack and also for external power.

That screw is indeed a temporary film plane hook, the production version has the hook milled from the aluminium case (one solid piece)

Nice to hear your adding a hook to the blade. It will really help when doing quick measurements for focus pullers. No more guessing, I use a tape measure to get a idea where the focus is and compare it on the markings on my lenses and marked follow focus wheel. Unfortunately, I still have to kinda guess using my Rev3.

I find using the top handle is accurate, aslong as your lenses are good and the back focus is set properly.

first, you loosen the three screws at the lens mount, and then loosen the smaller holding screw which is inside the little hole. Then you simply place your lens at infinity, and twist clockwise, or counter clockwise that entire end section until you get a perfectly focused image. Then tighten everything back up. I'd post a little demo video but don't have time right now. I just followed the instructions and was able to set it up reasonably quickly.

Maybe when i'm home this weekend ill do one more video.

Sorry if this has been covered already, but how many approx stops light loss are there with:

Blade / Flip / Canon FD 1.4 50mm

Is the compared 'LEX', earlier in this thread the Extreme or Ultimate?

Papa, latest video looks great (It sounds a bit weird tho)

" I can be Santa Claus.....( I´m double-parked.....)........"

made me clean forget about the adaptor...........so anyway......errrr...where can I get a Santa Claus suit on a Sunday....?

looks great, really great, Papa give us a run-down of the lighting in this...where was the softbox, how powerfull, distance, height etc?

I`m ready to purchase....(the adaptor, not the suit)

Hey guys, anyone post full resolution stuff? Maybe some MXF files? :)

Hopefully including some high detail stuff... sharpness charts or a woven blanket shot head on.

I had a 6x55 and 4x55 acting as a key light ( to really get rid of shadows, otherwise i could have gotten away with just one of them )

they were both lighting my far side as well as his. I would say they were about 10 feet away? Approximately.

And then a 4x55 gelled to CTO that was filling the close side, as a motivation from the kitchen tungsten lights. This one was about 6-7 feets distance.

Finally a 650 tungsten fresnels, with diffusion for our backlights. This one was about also around 6-7 feet distance. Maybe closer on my french friend though.

I ran tests to compare the lightloss to that of the LEX. I found that the Blade lost approximately 1/4 stops more light, at the tradoff of better bokeh rendition.

This bokeh comparison between the LEX and Blade are good examples of both the bokeh and light loss comparison:

I did shoot some resolution charts and i found that the SG blade maintained sharper edges, but the center of the image was slightly softer than the LEX. But i also posted that this is only due to the beta unit acrhomat's that were used, which will not be the ones in the Production models.

the production model's achromats will remove the CA that is present in the image, improv the sharpness and also allow for the xh a1 ( perhaps others ) to maintin focus on the GG passed Z82 ( i get a filmable image from Z73-82 )

New video:

Me improving with one of the actors as we were striking the set after a long day. Hence the rediculous subject matter.

This is nice footage! I really like the lighting... If only the bokeh was better I'd be sold - the bookshelf in the background of the close-up shot looks quite strange. It might be the vimeo compression artifacts. If you could post the still taken at, f.ex., 0:46... On the other hand ... who cares about what's not in focus ;)
