HPX-170, timecode and the Tascam HD-P2

I know the HPX-170 outputs timecode via the HD-SDI -- could I use this to sync timecode with a Tascam HD-P2? If so, it would be much more appealing to me.

Interesting question, and I'm not sure of the answer. But, the HMC150 can do it. It has an LTC timecode output feature which would integrate perfectly with something like the Tascam.

Hmm... That could be very interesting; I searched for an answer but couldn't find a definitive one. I may just have to try this out with my 170/HD-P2 when I get some free time.

I am not at all sure how the breakout from the 170 SDI works. I wonder if there are boxes that will separate the video from audio from TC signal? As far as I know, the spec for the SDI out is SMPTE standard so it should be possible but I think you might need some sort of breakout box to get at the solo TC signal. I would think it might "confuse" a TC input to encounter a signal that is HD SDI with embedded audio and video as well as the TC.

Jan, do you have an answer for this?

Dan
