Vegas 8 Capture Import Audio troubles

Ok... So I have two tapes that I filmed in 24p on the DVX-100A, I then used a regular DV camcorder to use as a deck and started the capture program within Vegas 8 (Which is 6.0).

Everything captured fine (Besides some dropped frames but I don't see anything wrong with the video), it plays fine and sounds fine in the preview.

The problem is that when I open it in Vegas or any other application I get perfect video but absolutely no sound. Nothing even registers in the timeline as sound.

Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Because right now my only work around is to record the audio using audacity while playing the clip in the Capture Preview viewer.

Many thanks to any possible help.

I guess nobody has an answer?

I have the same problem. I'm bringing in footage from a consumer-level Sony DCR-SR45 HDD camcorder. I import using the Picture Motion Browser utility that came with the camera.

When I import the MPG files into Vegas, I get video but no audio -- same symptoms Dario describes.

If I play the MPG files in Windows Media Player, I get audio but no video. Go figure that one out.

Any help?

here is a question for vegas user............ does vegas has a widescreen filter like fcp, where you can adjust how wide you want and move the video up or down (headroom)

You need to start a new thread to ask that question. Please don't append it to an existing thread on a completely different subject. Besides, your chances of getting an answer will increase greatly if you put it in its own thread.

How did you bring it into the timeline? There are a few ways you could have done it which would bring in only the video and not the audio.

I don't know about Dario, but I just clicked FILE > IMPORT > MEDIA.

When I highlight one of the MPG files, it shows only 1 stream -- for VIDEO it has properties, but no properties for AUDIO.

I'm relatively new to the whole Vegas experience. Is there a better way to bring the video into the project?

If it's MPEG, it's possible the audio is separate.

I usually just drag a clip from Windows Explorer straight to the timeline or the media pool. I don't think I've ever used File>Import.

Interesting. I just tried that -- still no sound. I was dragging it from the computer's hard drive, not the camera's, though.

Once the clip is in the Project Media, I just drag it from there to the timeline. I've also double-clicked it from there to the timeline.

I just tried dragging/dropping from the camera's hard drive straight to the timeline -- same problem.

I think it's curious that Windows Media Player plays only the audio and not the video, whereas Vegas sees only the video and not the audio. Very strange!

BTW, I'm running Vegas Pro 8.0.

It's a Sony DCR-SR45.

I used the same camera before to shoot video and bring it into Vegas. Before I used a demo version of Vegas, which was probably 7.0 -- can't remember. And used it on a different computer -- a laptop. But it brought in the audio without a problem.

Sony makes the camera. Sony makes Vegas. It's unfathomable that the two would not be compatible. (Though not unheard of.)

You'd be surprised. Sony is a huge company.

Anyway, with no example of the camera to experiment with, I'm not sure what the problem is.

Apparently at some point some .MODD files were also created. Their filenames match the filenames of the .MPG files, but the file sizes are quite small. I wonder if this has anything to do with anything?

BTW, I can play the .MPG files in Sony's Picture Motion Browser application, and both sound and video are intact.

SOLVED!

Last night I tackled this problem again. One thing I'd noticed when I'd click on (highlight) one of these .MPG clips in Vegas Pro 8.0a is the details didn't show any audio stream at all, only a video stream. Yet I knew the audio was there, because the clip plays fine in Picture Motion Browser, sound and all.

I uninstalled and re-installed Vegas Pro 8.0a, but that didn't help. So I finally got smart and went to Sony's website. Downloaded the update (which is 8.0c). Installed that, and VOILA! Now the clips play with sound in Vegas!

That's a relief! :)
