Fast running trick in movies....ala Twilight

[AJ Brooks]

You know what I am talking about? Where they ramp up the speed so it looks like a character is running extremely fast. Popular recently with the vampire pieces, Twilight and True Blood.

Used ages ago and is still used today, but I cannot understand why.

I have never found this effect pleasing in any way. Even with CG to aid the effect, it still looks exactly like what it is... sped up film.

Personally, I find it an eyesore when I see it. I vote we find a new standard for the effect to convey that someone is running incredibly fast.

My Gf is a fan of twilight and we went to see it.

To be frank, there isn't much all too impressive about twilight. Not only was that running effect an eyesore, so were the loads of other effects used... and dialogue, and acting, and everything...

So while I agree with you, I would say the director just didn't know what she was doing at all.

I think that effect is done pretty well in Smallville though. They work more with the blur effect, no?
