DIY dolly (not skateboard wheel type)

Okay, I have seen and fallen in love with the JL Fisher dolly. I know I cannot build one exactly like it, but I want to emulate some of the functions of that beauty in a compact frame like they did.

Anyone have good pics of one, or has anyone built one like it? Some of those functions I am already doing the calculations and spec's to figure out what will be needed. This will be for a lighter camera such as my HVX or an HPX-500 (only in my dreams), but no where near what is required weight-wise for a production Panavision. I estimate I want to have the capacity for 15 pounds on the arm.

If you do a google search, check out the results under Patents for the Fisher dolly. They have detailed drawings that show you what you're looking for. Once I saw that, it was clear why they're so expensive. Very complicated design to build.

Also, if you're going to spend some $$money$$ on this project, you might want to consider building it for a larger camera, giving you more options down the road. Plus, the heavier it is, the smoother it will operate. Good luck.
