Shooting a short in a dark room help

In about a week from now I will be shooting a one of my short ideas, but the room is required to be dark. I need to know what I can do with my camera to make it much more lighter, and what I can do with the room to make it seem lighter as well. Any help?

What is it lit by? Moonlight? A desk lamp?

I've gotten good results by just lighting my backgrounds with 1/2 ctb'd lights, then lighting the talent with another light with 1/4 cto to simulate a tungsten lamp in the room. A bit of a color temp mix obviously, but I think it turns out pretty natural. Although the room is dark, that doesn't mean nothing is lighting it.

You need to light it eaxctly how the moon would light the room.

eg through the window / skylight as a single source.

The moon is a reflection of the suns light and is therefore a hard source (unless diffused by clouds of course). Effectively its a 5600k light but frequently the license is to blue it up for night effect.

You need to position a Fresnel light to beam in through the window onto your subject then add an internal soft ambience that matches. This helps your fill.

You could enhance the source light with additional "spot lights" in the room to cast shadows/shapes to where you want them in the frame eg background shadow of a room object.

The source lighting needs to get you an exposure on the lens that suits the DOF you want. You then choose a stop from there that darkens the image to the level desired for the scene.

I would leave a little exposure headroom to darken in post prod. (LEVELS)
