Best Buy versus Circuit City

I think I told this story before... but one day I went into Best Buy to get a car stereo (we're talking about 10 years ago now... it was the Bridgeton location. So I'm picking one out... and the guy is standing there explaining the cost to me, including the extended warranty. I say I don't want it... he says "you HAVE to get that"... and I kind of laugh and say "dude, I'm sorry if you'll miss out on the commission or whatever you get for the extended warranty, but I'm not getting it."... so the guy says AND I QUOTE... "I'll bet you a thousand dollars I don't get anything if you get an extended warranty."...

I say "yeah OK dude, you guys push these so hard that you obviously get something. Either the store wins a prize or you get something."

Then the dude starts saying "I'm going to SUE YOU for that thousand dollars if you don't pay me!"

I kind of laugh thinking "is this guy nuts or what?"... and I kind of wave my hand like "dude get out of here, I'm looking at car stereos"...

So the gist is... this guy stays in my face escalating this whole situation... saying (virtually YELLING) that he is going to SUE me for this $1,000.

I was trying to blow him off... but it got ridiculous... so finally I'm yelling back "what the hell is your PROBLEM dude!? Do you want to take this outside?"

And all the guy keeps doing is yelling about how he's going to sue me... so I finally start heading towards the door as the guy is following me... and I tell him to keep following me all the way out the door, because at this point I'm ready to take this wherever he wants to... and the guy won't come outside of the door... so I figure "screw this" and start to just leave... but then decided it was ridiculous to not go tell a manager how WACKY this whole encounter was...

I got the manager... all the while this guy standing there continuing on about the law suit... and the manager is just laughing about how enthusiastic "johnny" was and how "he can get a little carried away about doing his job"...

My jaw was hanging... I was totally STUNNED... it was like a scene from a Jim Carrey movie... to this day I can't believe the whole incident... trust me it was every bit as bizarre as it sounds.

i bet you a thousand dollars you've told us this story before. :)
and if you refuse to admit it, i will SUE!

Best Buy is good for getting new releases at the lowest price in the first week of release; even with sales tax, it's cheaper and faster than Amazon.

I was checking the price of the HV30. B&H had it for $624 and free shipping. Best Buy was still $899. Same with CC. That would seal the deal for me.

Matt that is a crazy story.

i bought a video camera from circuit city. When i opened the box it was full of cans. perfectly placed cans like "chicken of the sea", some green beans, and red beans (green giant)
i took it back, and they said "why are u giving us a bunch of cans"

long story shot - police, suing CC, 9 months in court, etc

i won the case, and will never shop at circuit city. i hate them with a passion and am glad to here they filed for bankruptcy. Hopefully they disappear.

Sorry to hear about your legal struggles. That must have been a big fat pain in the a$$. On the flip side, that is HILARIOUS. :D

I worked at a Future Shop (Canadian Equivilant of Best Buy) for a few months like 8 years ago and their Product Service Plan/Extended Warranty is nothing but pure profit and yes, you did get commision on it. Most of the guys that work there are nothing but sharks and I've seen so many people get talked into **** they didn't need. Pretty pathetic.

My brother went into a Future Shop last year was buying a PS3 and a 42" TV, as their ringing it up the sales guy is insisting on the extended warranty, my brother keeps saying he's not interested, finally the sales guys say "Listen, these TV's will break on you, it's better to be protected" so he calls him on his bluff and says "So your telling me I shouldn't buy this TV then?" he says "Well no I didn't say that" " Then why am I spending 1300.00 on something that is going to break, you know what, I'm not interested" and my brother walks away. The look on the sales guys face was ****ing priceless.

A few weeks later he ended up getting it at Costco.

Interesting plot for a short film.......

You need to get the security camera image and upload it here, that image would be worth millions........ Great, at least hire an actor to reenact that scene..... I need to see his face.

lol, that was the most expensive can of green beans i ever had. They claimed i did it because it was new. So either they are lying and selling used stuff as new or someone who works there stole it.

in court the dude they sent was a kid that wasn't even there and had no idea why he was there. He said "we don't sell used product and we have a super locked gate for expensive stuff so there is no way this could happen" then we show the judge a article in the NY TIMES about it happening to 3 people. lol the judge asked the circuit city kid "what happens if you lose the case, do u have the power to write a check" he said "he had to check with his manager. lol

quote the judge "then why are u here"

I heard 9,500 today. Either way, I'm keeping my eyes peeled. I could use a new laptop, but I need to watch my money.

how about a labtop box with something else in it. maybe a few actual spiral bound notebooks. I'm sure if u went to the circuit city around my way u could find that deal.

I think from now on if I buy something expensive, I'm going to open the box right then and there and make sure at least one other person sees it.
