My grandfather gave me his old camera gear (lenses) in his will

so i received them today, and they are

1) Nikkor 28mm (1:3.5)
1) Nikkor 50mm (1:2)
1) Vivitar 135mm telephoto lens (1:2.8)

are these lenses good?
can anyone give me any insight on these because i am very new to all of the lenses you can use for adapters

i would like to use them for either a M2 or an SGpro

thank you so much for any help.

the 50mm f2 is very nice on the sgpro. it's supposed to be the sharpest 50mm nikon ever made... it might vignette a little bit on the m2 though

i shot these pieces solely with the 50mm f2 on the SGpro -

the 135mm f2.8 is also nice. a bit slow for indoors work but very nice outside.

shot this solely with the 135mm f2.8 on the SGpro - http://vimeo.com/843399

i've never used the 28mm f3.5. but i suspect that it'll be "ok" for outside work... but it'll probably vignette badly coz it's a slow wide.

p.s. vignetting is when the picture goes darker at the edges.

Thank you so much Jenningsp!
can't you just zoom in on your camera to get rid of vignetting? or is that not good?

if you don't have a flip module then you can only zoom in so far... i'm actually at the max usable zoom on my dvx/sgpro setup just to get past the tube framing with 4x3. if you zoom in more, you can't focus on the GG.. at 16x9 i could zoom out more but i shoot 4x3.

if you've got a flip module then you can zoom in pretty far i've heard.

but if you zoom in a lot on a 28mm lens it'll be the same field of view as a 35mm lens at normal zoom.. so it only works so much.

gotcha, thanks

I would put them away in a safe place and get other lenses. These will have a sentimental value and you may not know it until one gets lost. Put them on s shelf and say my grand father believed in me. :)

The 28mm at f3.5 is the piece to put on your shelf..it's too slow even for our adapter as a wide angle prime :-) The 50 at f2 and the 135 at f2.8 should work just fine. I always suggesting googling the lens model to see what the photog's are saying about the lens. If they like it chances are that you will too.

Cheers,
Dennis
