Footloose (and fancy free)

Here is a rough design in its early stage for an outdoor production of Footloose.

Software: Illustrator, Photoshop

Opinions and criticisms, please!

I like it a lot. Great palette, shapes, fun font that seems very appropriate. If I were you I might play around with opacity and color to make the silhouettes a little more prominent. Also, the female poses are great, but the males seem like they could be a little more dynamic and dance-y.

That whole explosion of shapes coming straight at you is very cool, but the frame that contains "Footloose" just sits there on top, might be taking away from the energy a bit. Also not sure about the negative space around the text - composition seems a little off balance. Maybe see what it looks like with one or two of the dancers in the text box?

Overall, it looks really great. Maybe a tad too busy with not enough of contrasty focal point(s)? Not sure... But very nice work. Even if you didn't change a thing it would be very satisfactory, I think.

I like this version a lot better Kyle. Both are very beautiful, but I honestly didnt notice the dancers much before and wondered if this was the same Footloose I was thinking of. Now I know its the whole dancing thing. Love the colors. The only thing I might look at changing is the font. Can it be beefed up a bit or benefit from a stroke or something. Its there but it seems a little wimpy in there with everything else going on. That may just be me nitpicking though :)

Looks awesome either way. Really like what you did as its totally not what I would instantly think if someone said "make a footloose logo for a musical". But just the same it works really well. Is this for an actual production or class project? Hope its for real. I hate to see such good work not end up in the public.

Still diggin the banner btw. Very classy and its got that certain uncluttered punch that makes you want to know more.
