Redrock's DSLR shooting package

I think cages are cool as anything!

Functionally, I don't see what they would do for my HVX... but if I dropped it (*GASP*), I'd sure feel a little better with a cage!

I'm waiting to see the prices on this system! They haven't been announced yet. I'll post some High Quality photos Brian sent me in a bit. It sure looks cool though.

Why couldn't they do this for HDV cams? Seems a little overkill for a market that's not even really developed yet.

Are there really people rocking DSLRs as their main cam on productions at this current time?

From what I've seen of the D90 and Canon's new cam, there is a bit more to be desired in terms of the technical stuff for these cameras. Shutter problems and frame rate come to mind.

Most camera accessories manufactureres solutions are never camera specific. You could easily use that same setup on a HVX! HV20! EX-!! It's just being release for DSLRS in a package. You could buy the same thing and strap on your big boy camera. I mean the mounting plate on the Redrock baseplate system is a universal plate from Manfrotto. You can adapt the setup to any camera thread size you'd like! Even RED potentially. I dunno if the cage would work the same way, but theoretically it could work.

Okay I see. It would make sense if it could additionally be adapted (specifically the cage) to a regular sized HD cam. I was just concerned that, like KeeganFlynn said, it's a solution without a problem. With the information available on the Redrock site, they seem to be targeting a specific market that I personally don't think is really viable yet. All the while there are people like me who kill for a setup for that on my A1.

It just seems a little "cart before the horse" to me.

But its not a cage, its afew mattebox swing away arms and some more rods. This is no different to some kid taking his lego car apart and building it into a lego train. Its the same bits, its not a new product at all....

looks point less to me. i would love to watch someone trying to run and gun with that.

I think part of Redrock's idea was to give you places to strap things and to enable that handle on top. I mean lots of manufacturers are hoping on this DSLR bandwagon. Zacuto, Redrock, I'm sure others are soon to come! They all have their own ideas... Different strokes for different folks I guess!

We'll have to wait and see what's in store.
