24pa or 30p to interlaced DVD

If you shoot 24pa or 30p with a DVX100B or HVX200a with thin line verticle resolution, what project settings in premiere should be selected to output to a normal interlaced DVD? I am getting some bad flickering in an actors tie when I work with the MPEG exported from the Media Encoder to Encore. Do I want a progressive or interlaced timeline? And depending on what I do, how should the Adobe Media Encoder be configured to stop the flicter, which is not their when I export to AVI or Windows Media Format.

Thanks, Steve

You might want to apply a (very) slight vertical blur. Unfortunately, having shot THIN, you're going to see a flicker on an interlaced system because the vertical detail is too high.

Exactly how would you do that in Premiere? Use Flicker in the Field options? Again, I have no problem when I output a progressive DVD--there is no flicer. But do most people's home DVD players have progressive capability? And how do most people's CRT TV's deal with a progressive signal from a DVD player?

Any DVD player will play a 24p DVD to any TV -- that's how every Hollywood movie is on DVD. There's not actually any such thing as a 30p DVD -- it'll be a 60i stream.

question: should I have my dvx on thin or thick vertical resolution? I shoot 24pA always. Also, does this change when I shoot 30p?

THIN resolution is too high a detail level to display on a standard interlaced TV without a flicker. If you're planning it for TV display, the only time you'd want THIN is if you're shooting 4:3 and plan to crop it to 16:9 for widescreen DVD. THEN, you'll want the increased vertical detail because you're going to be stretching it vertically. It's the same in 24p or 30p.

so what would you recommend if i'm shooting 24pA in stretch and crop to 2.35:1? if I intend for it to be able to be placed on DVD and the web?
