Strange glitch causing stutter in the timeline?

Hm. I've recently discovered what appears to be a glitch with my FCP and wonder if anyone else has heard of it. I did some research on the internet and found something similar with people exporting to quicktime and then getting a stutter, but this is a little different.

let's say i have two video tracks in the time line. Track one goes from 0-5 seconds, and then at the 5 second point, a new clip starts on track 2 above it and goes from 5-10 seconds.

if i extend the video track on Track 2 backwards a little, let's say to the 3 second mark, so that it's overlapping the clip below it on track 1, and hit playback, the clip on track 1 will inherit a stutter. there will be some point in the clip where 2 frames in a row will be the exact same. like one frame is dropped, and replaced with a copy of the frame before it.

this is happening ALL THE TIME. if i ever have a clip ontop of another, even if delete it so nothing is on top of each other, the clip below gets the stutter. the way i have found to FIX this, is to use option-click with the stuttered clip, drag the copy above it, delete the stuttered one below, and for the some reason this copy doesnt have the stutter.

it's pretty friggin annoying. any idea what's going on here?

oh woa. you got it. yeah i see now that it's turning the render line green. i thought it didnt need rendering unless it was red. problem solved. thank you captain :)

Still odd... not sure why it would change the render color unless you had some opacity issues or alpha channels. If it is a straight cut from one to the other it shouldn't affect the render.

Odd... but ok.

Back to work for you then!!
