projected cost of P2 media

We have two HVX200s and are looking forward to getting some 32g cards in approximately 6 months. Are there any projections from Panasonic or others of where P2 media costs will be in that time frame? Is it going to come down or stay the same?

Thanks for any information.

No word,

I did sell my prized 69 Z28 (dz 302, numbers match CAMERO) to buy some 4,8, & 16 gig cards.

How the hell can you afford 2 hvx's in this economy?

Hello Rosebud,
we have been discussing this over at--http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=149966&page=5
this came from Panasonic Australia guy.

We are expecting 64's in 4-5 weeks. Approx selling price will be around $3,200 plus GST. 32's and 16's will remain at the current prices for now. We won't be reintroducing the 8's. __________________

jesus that's expensive...

I wonder how long it will be until third party P2 cards come out.

someone tried but suddenly the project got canceled... it isn't as easy as we'd hope
it won't happen, not if it didn't by now... sorry if I sound like bret downer

We are pretty happy with the cameras, but we won't be buying any more P2 models unless the price comes down by at least 50%, which seems very unlikely.

Thanks for your replies.

Is that in AUD? If so, what are the 32GBs... between $2500 and $2750?

If so, I'm assuming the AUD to USD conversion would put the 64s at $2000 in the US.

Yes US dollar is Cheap compared to our AUSSIE dollar which is going south, 64gig in US would be $2170 at todays rate, if stcok market goes down more , then who knows... won't be many buyers whatever the price .. Hope I'm wrong..

It's actually more than that. With one 64GB card you get 171 minutes, which is 2:49. So two 64's would be closer to 5:40, and two 128's would put you at almost 11.5 hours.

yea, sorry about my quick math, but how freaggin' nice is that?

And 1080p on an HPX-500:
4 x 64GB = 256GB = more than 4hs!!
4 x 32GB = 128GB = more than 2hs

I seriously think it is over for all of those who thought about making them. They probably sunk a big chunk of cash only to realize that they wouldn't make any profits while Pana has the insentive of getting their cameras sold.

Jan just mentioned on that other thread going on right now that she would make more money delivering newspapers... lol... I totally believe her now that it's been so long and not a single competitor has surfaced.

Also, Pana cards are getting VERY affordable already... by the next release, 128GB cards, there will be no point at all. I really hope to see 32's costing about what 8's go for now.

I wonder if they could handle bigger files? I think they are maxed out, so the only development would be a new codec that fits into 100Mbps... right? It would be very sweet if the next thing turned out to be 4:4:4 and P2's could handle it. :D

:D

That will be by their record of releases to date, a very very long way away..
It's taken nearly 12 months to get the 64gig nearly out, and prior to that the 32's took nearly as long, and as far as cost goes if they have the market by the Ba*#'s why do it to suit the clients.

Whatever happened to the Fuji P2 cards?

Dan

Dude,

I asked this in another thread and did not have 1 response...

IF I were Panny and not making money (or not much) on these P2 cards I'd license the technology out to every vendor in the world.
