I just met charlie kaufmann at a prescreening of his new film - Synecdoche, New york. It's a really interesting film, I highly recommend watching it. He is known for writing really strange movies, but after listening to him explain his approach, they begin to make a lot of sense to me. Anyhow, just thought I'd share that.

I worship Kaufman. Wish I'd met him too! I did see Synecdoche at the Toronto Film Fest. I thought it was an absolute mess...until the next day, when I was still thinking about it, and the day after that, and the day after that. And I realized it's one of those films people will talk about for a long, long time. And I'm really glad he made it. I'm not sure it's going to do very well at the box office though.

He was here in Brooklyn about a month ago directing a flight of the conchords show and I was invited to the set to watch...A job came up and I couldn't go, poor timing. I was actually surprised that he was directing a slapstick comedy like FOTC, should be an interesting episode.

please share details. he rules and i'd love to hear what he had to say.

he's notorious for avoiding interviews, so he was a bit shy coming into the Q&A session, but once people started asking him more in depth questions, he opened up a bit. Obviously his writing style is somewhat abstract, and explained that he has written the stories he has because that is what he finds interesting..fair enough.

The interesting parallel I found was between his life and the movie "synecdoche, New York." He spent 5 years making the movie, while the movie itself is about a man who spends his whole life trying to make a play that perfectly represented life and realism. The more the characters try to create realism, the more wierd and abstract the movie becomes. It's a very trippy concept, but also a great movie. I've been slowly digesting it, and I can't wait to see it again

You bastard! You Lucky BASTARD! lol.

I saw Synecdoche. I've seen all of his films, even Human Nature.

I think Synedoche is by far his best. I couldn't speak for 20 minutes after the credits rolled. I SO hope they release the original 4 hour version when it comes to video.

He's a Bona Fide genius, and I think Synecdoche is the most important film since 2001 (the movie not the year).

Anyway, I'm envyous, and I hope you realize how lucky you are to meet him, and we should all be grateful for his films, because they are gifts to the world.

I also got to see him. I didn't "meet" him though, but I attended a Q&A thing with him. Very cool guy.

I echo sean's comments about the film.
