FCP keeps crashing during capture

I have been trying to capture an old hi-8 tape (hi-8 camera -> RCA out -> DVX -> firewire -> macbook) for the last few hours, but every time the video ends on the hi-8 tape (not the tape it self, just the footage) FCP becomes completely unresponsive and ends up needing to be killed from the Force Quit rendering the captured footage (about an hour) unusable. I was able to capture one hi-8 tape just fine but this tape is absolutley throwing FCP into a fit when the vide ends. What is going on here?

I'm using:

Sony High-8 camcorder (CCD-FX410)
DVX100b
Custom Firewire 250 HD
MacBook 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/ 2 GB ram
OSX 10.4.11
FCP 6.0.4

i had a similar problem. First off try capturing to your internal drive, your external might not be fast enough. If that doesnt work. than it looks like you'll have to capture it in 20 min or so increments. This happened when capturing in ProRes Hq on mine from HDV so im not sure if it could be the same problem with your high8 tape;

go into disk utility and make sure your HD is formated as "Mac OS Extended" and not"MS-DOS" (FAT32). FAT32 has a 4GB file limit, giving you problems when capturing. You can reformat your drive in Disk Utility (BUT WARNING, IT ERASES YOUR HARD DRIVE TO FORMAT)

The first thing I do when I get a HD that I'm going to edit off of and/or capture to is reformat it.
