Thanks for taking time to respond.
I thought it would be good to poll to make sure we are headed in the right direction. The group I am helping had compositing and some other things on their list of stuff to teach, My thoughts were story first, and then shoot and shoot and shoot. lots of hands on, working with pros. and in teams.
As far as if I know what I am doing, I have a MFA In screenwriting, written for a lot of clients including a national cable tv show, I've directed 2 indy features ,the last one on the red, which is in post now, my first movie was shot on the DVX, and it actually has distribution, I worked in TV for 3 years making commercials, been a prof for 8 years now and I have shot countless corporate videos. And I still have a lot to learn. We will be hiring other teachers and they will have, at a minimum, 5 years of professional experience.
Since I have been in academics the last 8 years it is easy to loose touch with what is going on at street level, so to speak. That's why I wanted your feedback. I'm in a place now where I'm trying to just shoot films, but our students can't be full time film makers, they have to earn a living, its my job to help prep them for that. So that includes learning how to make commercials and corp videos. Some of the script writing will include writing those type of videos.
My plan for cameras- not sure yet- I love the DVX and HVX. What do you suggest? We are considering buying a red to use to shoot professional videos on, finding clients, hiring pro DP's and Directors that are willing to mentor students on shoots.
I'm also waiting to see when Scarlet comes out. Our first class will be limited to 24 students, I plan on having 5 to 7 cameras and all types of support equip, including having a few Brevis units with lenses, each student will also have a macbook pro and fcp.
I appreciate any other feedback you have.
