Okay, so - Matt - this whole thread has been basically an ad? Not cool. Only sponsors advertise here. Did you run this by Jason?
 
Barry, No it was NOT meant to be an add. This place is like my family and I was just letting you guys know the process I was going through. I had no idea it would turn out like this and be marketed for sure. I would still like to keep it that way, just an update on my process of going from nothing to having an effect marketed. I think people just liked it and wanted to do it. I am happy they do but for sure did not mean for this to be an ad. I think the people here, including you, know me better than that by now. I would never attempt to sneak stuff by the mods. I respect this place and value each person here and the structure that keeps it going.

Thanks Jason, :) I never meant it as a marketing thread, I am just excited that something is succeeding in my life to financially help my family. It just so happens that the thing that is succeeding is a marketed Magic effect, so my updates seem like advertising.

Update: I signed the contract last week and finished the DVD. Everything is now locked in and it is a nice reassuring feeling. My DVD Master arrives at the production company today so I hope they approve of them. I spent a lot of time on them, and if the company likes them, they go to the duplicator. I finished the cover art for the jacket and DVD a couple days ago. I was lame and made it 72dpi instead of 300dpi. I had to redo the entire thing. Oh well, what is one more day in having a marketed magic effect right?

Well, the release date is set for the 31st so I can now release the name of the company who is releasing my effect. If any of you saw the new David Blaine Special, the effect where the card became the matchbook, is released by the same company. They are Paper Crane Productions . They have been wonderful to work with and so far, everything has worked out well. I believe the new thingto do is release instant download options of the dvds as well, as people overseas can buy the dvds without paying large shipping rates. We will see how it turns out, but so far I am excited! It should be a fun halloween!
 
Yeah, that Matchbook trick is called "Lit" It is pretty powerful because it is multilayered. I am starting to get nervous as my "Magic Baby" gets ready to enter the world. I hope it has a nice reception...:huh:
 
Yesterday I got the official word from Paper Crane nthat the demo is going up on the website on the 17th and they will release my project on the 27th. :beer:

:huh:Anyone here have something released whether DVD or music video, etc, who went through the same freaking out that I am going through?

There is something about having something I worked so hard on thrown out their for the public to accept or tear apart that kills me. I know we face this as Movie Makers all the time, but for some reason this is more intense for me this time. I guess I had similar feeling releasing PUSH in Time fest. Man it is draining.

I probably should just settle down and let what happenes happen. I do tend to overthink these things when it doesn't do a darn bit of good. Anyway. That is my update!

I created an illusion and attempted to get it marketed (Much like getting distribution for a film deal). I made the DVD teaching how to do it, made the cover art, etc. A big production company in the magic world picked up my illusion(They just worked with David Blaine on his special) . We signed a contract and Power Word: Fall is set to release the 27th and I am stoked! I don't know what this means for me financially, but as most of us film guys and gals know, sometimes it is a struggle to put bread on the table making indie films, so this should help my family and I.

I will keep you guys updated. It has been a very interesting process, and I am sure the rollercoaster will continue.

You just may have a talent for this stuff Matt. I know a lot of us have dabbled in magic at some point but have probably never created new tricks anything like this. May be a ticket to finance your films, which by your reel, are pretty cool btw.

Hey thanks! I am hoping this does lead to financial freedom and the ability to finance my films...we shall see.:dankk2:
 
Thanks! I have not seen the video you are refferring to though. Those moths were a stock video I had that I loved the feel of. I wanted to go for a mysterious vibe, because, even when you know the effect...it still freaks you out when you do it. :beer: I used Adobe Premiere CS3 and After Effects 7 to make the demo. I Shot it with the HVX200.:thumbup:

That is a creepy video...I liked it! Yeah the moths at 3:30 look similar to the ones in my demo. Good eye :beer:

I have sent a PM to Jason Ramsey about what to do if I want to advertise this here, as I think several people want to buy it, and I want to go about this the right way. It will be coming out the 27th on Paper Crane.
 
I just was in contact with Jason. I will be advertising the effect here on DVXuser for one month starting the 27th (The Release) The demo should be up tomorrow at Paper Crane.
