Finally finished the post on a PSA for Bowery Mission. It's to raise money for a non-profit that's helped the homeless for the last 150 years. It's also for me an homage to my City, NYC.

Camera compression or H264 compression for web? If it's the latter then send me your recipe for clean H264 (with a bit rate under 1200). I'm trying to see what you mean by pixelation. Which frame is it bad because I'm not seeing it.

The h264 compression is definitely the problem, I can see that many of the fine details have been lost (i.e the leaves). 1200 is definitely too low for the resolution that you're trying to go for. I usually use 1500 as the minimum and two passes for lower file size.

Very nice work, Tim. I enjoyed the creativity of your compositions. I lived in NYC for 10 years and can't wait to go back to shoot it :)

I think I'll reduce the dimensions instead of increase bandwidth. Too many clients or potential clients in NYC have lousy connections. I've found 1200 to be the overall threshold for tolerance. Maybe the providers are just cramming too many on too little space.

Any settings you'd want to recommend?

Tim:

Very moving piece. I was shooting in many of the same locations a few weeks ago but just with a bare HVX, your stuff looks awesome.

I wil have to remember to call when I need a DP in NYC, you are good.

Looks good. Very clean that set up you have. We just got an EX-1 with a Brevis set up but haven't used it yet and hope it looks as good.

This project really sold me on the EX1. And this was only 720p. I think you'll dig it with the Brevis. It should be awesomely sharp. Brevis has pretty damn sharp image, also with the EX1's sensitivity, the Brevis's minimal light loss and NYC bright lights, you should be able to get some awesome night footage. I'd put the EX1 almost a stop hotter than my HVX. Also, the lens is 1.9 all the way through the zoom.

Post when you got some images.

Hi Tim. Nice work. As always :)

What equipment did you use for the motion shots, eg: Slider, Dolly?

re: shot before website is given at end - crowd passing by, slow motion
Is the 'wobble' in that shot caused by the spinning focussing screen at a high frame rate?

The wobble is from being at a 200mm lens and then zoomed in all the way on the EX1, essentially creating the compression of 400-500mm lens on 35mm imager. Wind, vibration, anything gets picked up when zoomed in that far. It's in these cases that you cannot have a rod/support system that is too rigid.

The Dolley was a Long Valley Skateboard dolly on a piece of 8' precision track. No one was riding the dolley, I just tracked it by hand. I think Long Valley makes the best 500.00 dollar dolly out there, bar none.

Also, used grads alot and then embellished them with electronic grads in post. I feel I can't use only electronic grads as you have to get the sky inside of clipping to have something to work with in post.
