hey all, I have a 50 minute video fully edited. It is about 12 gigs. How do I put this on a DVD? Do I need to use compressor? If so, how would I compress it to fit?

I'm using final cut pro (studio 2) to edit, and I made a layout on dvd studio pro. I have never used compressor before. is it as easy as setting a dvd compression? how would I do that?

In FCP, select your sequence, with In/Out points set, then goto File>Export > Using Compressor.

In compressor, goto your settings window. Drop down Apple>DVD>DVD Best quality 90 minutes. Drag the "DVD Best quality 90 minutes" folder up to where it says "Drag your settings here".

Goto your Apple Menu and under Target>Destination> Set your destination. Then click the submit button.

Then open your batch monitor by clicking the icon in the upper right. You can watch the compression process there.

Thought i would ask a question. I have picked my settings and destinations, Compressor tells me that everything is complete And successful, but when I go to watch the video, I have no sound. I applied the sound setting that is in the same folder and the encode I choose. Is there anything I could be doing wrong or missing a step? Thanks

when I go to watch the video, I have no sound.

Where are you watching it? What program? Keep in mind you will get two separate files for audio and video, you will need to drop them into DVDSP to watch and listen to them concurrently.

As im trying to learn everything in a rush, Dvd Studio pro is on my list of learning. By any chance I dvd wont be able to read the 2 files will it? Or should I try to speed learn DVD studio pro. Do you have any suggestions as to some good video tutorials for Compressor and DVDSP?

dude have you ever opened compressor and even looked at the settings or tried any of this ...

it won't bite you

Use the DVD highest quality preset as I said several posts ago ... yes it will make two files.

Then DVD studio pro will put the back together.

Just try it with a short section.

Here. Here's a screen capture of me going from FCP to Compressor to DVD Studio Pro.

There's no sound. I went quickly, so you might play it back slowly (quicktime/window/AV controls). But go through these steps and that's all there is to it.

Also, when I hit "cancel" I would really be hitting "save" most of the time. Kind of like on a talk show where the recipe is already cooked and they show you making it then just bring ut the already cooked one.

I export a QT movie from FCP rather than go right of the timeline to compressor. If your timeline is fully rendered this will not take very long. This is a matter of preference. My feeling is that having one time intensive, memory intensive program up and running and having all my machines resources allocated to it is better than running both at once. Batch monitor window gives more accurate time estimates when I do it this way as well I think.

So going out of FCP set your In Out points by placing the curser where you want the in or the out and hitting I or O. If you want the whole timeline then no need for in and out as in my demo.
