FIREPROOF - The new film from Sherwood Pictures

What part of real life is depicted in Dark Knight? The struggle between good and evil? That's hardly new. What can the average person learn from Dark Knight that will help them in their daily life? I'm not saying every movie has to have that -- movies can be purely escape. But you imply that people who don't want to watch dark, violent movies are not facing 'real life', so escapism doesn't really come into play in that argument.

As to the size of the audience segment, that's something the market will determine, just like with any other movie.

The market has determined it, The Dark Knight broke all records.....

I understand having preference and rather seeing something instead of The Dark Knight, which would be stated "some people would rather watch Fireproof then The Dark Knight" but what I heard from you is that "there is a segment that will never watch The Dark Knight" as if there is something terribly wrong with the movie....

Movies are one of the best mediums for thinking about real life, so if you decide to isolate yourself from all dark or violent movies then in some ways to are denying real life, and I'd be surprised if that person who avoids dark movies didn't avoid all other mediums that depict life as dark

You're right, there are people out there doing both good and evil. And it's a great thing to emulate those doing good. "Flywheel", "Facing The Giants" and, I'm sure, "Fireproof" are also stories about people dealing with good and evil.

BTW, I've had cancer too. In fact, I go tomorrow (Wednesday) for my 2-year checkup to see if I'm still cancer-free. So I understand that pain as well. You're a very young chap. Sorry you've had to deal with that so soon in your life -- or at all, for that matter. I hate that anyone has to suffer with cancer, and I have utmost empathy for them.

David I agree with you, when i say more mainstream, I dont't mean message wise, i mean budget and talent wise.

have John Voit, Gary Senice, patrisha Richardson, Chuck Norris, James Garner, Bruce Dern, Tom Celic, in a hollywood budget Christian film with a message and lookout box office!

Why haven't you heard me say it's a preference???

Just as there is a segment of the audience who will never, ever watch 'Fireproof' or 'Passion of the Christ'. Are they equally wrong? Are they equally in denial?

People have their preferences, and should be entitled to their choices without abuse from others.

Though those aren't the biggest names around, I'd like to see more well-known actors doing Christian movies. If budgets get bigger, maybe that will happen. (I think James Garner is dead, isn't he?)

Sorry I guess I just operate from the "never say never" point of view, and whether or not they're in denial all depends on why they "will never watch" some movie...I understand everyone deserves their preference, but if we leave it at that then no one can ever do any wrong, there are standards that dictate healthy behavior....

True. But not everybody has to like every type of movie. I have no interest in historical dramas or musicals, personally. I was even bored watching 'Amazing Grace', even though it was well done, powerful, and its message was important. It's just not my thing, being as it's a historical drama.

I'm also not a huge fan of foreign films as a rule, no matter how important a particular film's message might be. I just have a hard time getting into them.

As long as people are getting what they need out of movies, TV, news, and life in general, then I don't see what the problem is.

you're right they aren't the biggest names, just some of the biggest names that happen to also be Christian, you know I think he may be now that I think of it.

star wars is about jesus. dark sides good the force. bushidoism.... jedis are christians

no Star Wars is not about Christ, thats like saying the hidden Fortress was about Christ, simply because a story depicts the writers views on good vs. evil, does not make is a Christian film. just as Narnia isn't, many think it is, cause i has a "Jesus like Figure that died and came back and stood against evil. however many religions depict this, and narnia depicted many religions, from greek, to wicca, assatue, and Christianity (incorectly I must add) so no it isn't about Chist, and it isn't a Christian film.

I'll be Praying for you.

Star Wars is a very spiritual film. Truly, deep **** when you think about it. The message is there, it is uplifting, good vs evil.

Doesn't change the fact Luke is a betch though.

Star Wars is spiritual, but def. not "Christian"

It actually embraces Eastern mysticism which most Christians would reject. The good vs. evil theme does run through it strongly, and there is a lot of allegory going on as well... with the son and father thing... but I would still never call it "Christian"

I have to bail to work; but on the subject of 'what's wrong with films being preachy' ...

Catering to the mass market is the issue. The mainstream moveigoer doesn't want it. CFilmmkaers can do it of course, but that is why these films will never find B.O. Success style.

Again John, it ALL depends on how you measure success... Fireproof isn't competing with The Dark Knight. Look at the film The Lucky Ones... it opened this weekend on over 400 screens (half of what Fireproof opened on) and it did 180,000.... lol. I think Fireproof is very successful in it's own right... it's a niche film, bottom line, and that niche deserves quality pieces. Do I think Fireproof is a perfect movie? Absolutely not, there are many issues with it, but I enjoyed it overall...

Of course Brandon

I never intended to impoly Star Wars as being Christian; just spiritual.

Cool cool. Well said.
