in my life time 2 other films made me want to cry, "terms od enderment" and "Steel magnolious" add this film as the third on that list.

please watch it before you judge it, this film is history, its put a huge hole in the anti Christian glass ceiling that is hollywood.

I hate when people say maybe you should watch more movies, and perhaps we are different emotional beings, although it seems emotionally people are pretty similar, our intellects just differ, but those are the only three movies that have effected you emotionally?? Being honest, I could list about twenty just off the top of my head, its still a very small percentage when considering it out of the overall movies I've seen but I was surprised by that comment...

And I still don't get this anti Christian attitude you think Hollywood has, sure they aren't jumping to make Christian films, but it has everything to do with the quality of the films and box office numbers (which reflects the quality of the film) and not some anti Christian sentiment. For example, after Easy Rider was such a success studios took much bigger risks with filmmakers and their projects, same can be said with other independent films, its about proving yourself first, not the "Man" keeping you down.

That's what I would think...

it is clear that hollywood is anti Christian, as soon as passion came out Hollywood screamed that it was Anti Semitic and anyone who actually took the time to watch it knows thats BS. Gibson perhaps however maybe do to other actions he's done, but the film was in no way.

you have cape Fear rewritten to show Christians as fanatics, Hollywood is without a doubt left wing, and left wing tends be be anti Christian, If you don't believe that Hollywood is fast to blackball Consercativs and Christians ask John Milius,

They are remaking RedDawn and i'll bet you anything its much more "Politically Correct", than the original, and in todays world, Politically Correct means anti Christian and anti conservative.

First film, "good Christian small town kids fiting the evils of the eastern block", new movie. probably "ambivolent athiest subburbian or inercity kids fighting evil corperations who have taken our freedom".

Like it or not, Mel and his Father are the reason that The Passion was looked at with a slanted view by the Jewish community. Don't forget, if Jewish people don't believe that their ancestors were responsible for crucifying the Son of God, how else should they react to a movie that claims the opposite? :)
Not everyone believes that the man known as Jesus Christ was who he was claiming to be.

Just a thought.

Back on topic. I look at all reviews. Chances are, if 80% of the critics say it's a dud, then it's a dud. Judging by the poor acting I saw in the trailer I'll wait to see if my suspicions are true before spending my hard earned money.

thats fine, but the Christian faith is based on the life and death of Jesus, so any movie about Jesus's death will have to show the way he died. showing this is not anti semitic, we are not saying we don't like Jewish people, we're not saying we blame jewish people for his death, in fact Christ was Jewish, I think its clear in the movie that he died for a reason, for us, it doesn't matter who killed him. saying the film is anti semitic when it clearly isn't is in fact anti Christian. and nothing was known about gibsons views on Jewish people untill he got drunk and yelled a the cop, after passion was made.

Christians never compain when a Pro Jewish movie is made. in fact we come out in droves to see it and support our Uncles,

as as for Fireproof, most reviews I've seen are positive, so I doubt 80% are calling it a dud.

Please stop talking about POTC. This is the thread for Fireproof. Beside that, If people want to make a movie about Jesus, Allah, or Buddha it doesn't matter. Let them do it, but don't sit and complain about how they arn't making enough films about Jesus. I guess hollywood is Anti-Allah, Anti-Shiva, Anti-Native American Gods, or Anti-Polytheistic. To be honest, I don't see a lot of these kind of movies. I don't see a lot of movies that deal with religion as the MAIN aspect of their film. Because, it doesn't SELL. It's entertainment. I just don't think christians need to watch a film to find faith. They have the bible. Why should they make films about something that's been around forever.

Yes most stories are based off other stories. It's just the fact is, if the film made 20 million it's opening weekend. You'd bet your ass, Kirk Cameron would have been Iron-Man, and Batman would be asking god for help in The Dark Knight.

you're missing the point, and this Thread isn't just about fireproof anymore. its about why Fireproof was made, and what impact it is having and will have on our country, and American film making.

you're right not alot of films about Alah, not a lot of films about Native American gods, but how many films are out there that make Allah look bad? or native American gods look bad? yet last temptation was a hollywood fav,

how many films make Muslims out to be evil fanatics? non in hollywoods main stream, dispite world events, if one was to be made hollywoods load mouths would be screaming about it. "you can't do that Islam is a religion of piece" and it is.

but make a film where the bad guy is a Christian fanatic you everyone wants to give Dinero an oscar.

do you not see the pattern.

add to that that films like Passion are seen as anti semitic when they aren't. well there is a pattern, and it has nothing to do with money.

now we have an outstanding film like FireProof, wonderfuly shot, acted, written, and its making alot of money, but main stream hollywood isn't going to let it budge them, however this film will give other Christians hope, and insperation to do the same thing.

now you go to any other county and the films of that country reflect the culture and religion of that country, Bollywood makes hindu possitive films, malaysia makes islamic possitive films, yet America a Christian country, (don't yell, with over 80% its is) does not make films that reflect this. (I know not all American's are Christian, and thats ok, not all Indians are Hindu, not all Malaysians are Muslim, yet the bulk are, just like here, and their films reflect it, unlike here)

it isn't about the money, there is no doubt that if you put the money they put into Dark night, or Iron Man into a possitive film with real talent, and production quality, grounded in Christianity, it will blow all box office records away.

Dude come on, who is Hollywood? Hollywood screamed it was anti semitic? Do you mean critics and the media? Even if so, wowo they got it wrong, that's never happened before has it????

Brandon can recognize it's not some Hollywood anti Christian sentiment, sure I bet you'd love to think it was a conspiracy against you and Christian movies, but sorry there isn't, and you only have 2 examples, and terrible ones at that.

News flash, Hollywood tries to make money!

how many films make Muslims out to be evil fanatics? non in hollywoods main stream, dispite world events, if one was to be made hollywoods load mouths would be screaming about it. "you can't do that Islam is a religion of piece" and it is.

Umm tons and tons actually and television shows too, you must have missed it.....

That's all speculation. I guess in your mind its not possible for a collaboration between Scorsese and De Niro to be Oscar potential. Maybe you should check that movie out again, De Niro is freaking amazing in it!

LOL

the idea of him playing a crazy christian is to play on christans fears. That it could be anyone. movies play on our fears. Its what they do good. IMO.

I agree, and I'm not Jewish. I can just see it from their point of view. Look at it like this, if a Jewish Director made a movie about Jesus NOT being the son of God and getting crucified for falsely claiming to be just that, it would get a hell of a lot of backlash from the Christian community. If they painted Jesus as a fake, a sham, and NOT the true son of God.... look out! :)

In a way, Mel did the opposite of that to them. That and his family history is ugly to say the least.

Now, Fireproof. I'm going to wait and see what the general consensus is.
BTW, how IS the acting? Like a TV movie? Worse? Better?

Mike

The acting quality fluxuates within the film. Kirk Cameron is the only "actor" in the film, the rest are volunteers. They pull things off suprisingly well though.

Really? Ummm..... alright.
So that's the why the acting came off poorly.

Well, if it does well hopefully it will open some doors for the Christian filmmaking community. Getting real actors in their films would be a start.

They did it, and there was little outrage, it was called the last tempation of Christ, and while they didn't call him a fake they did much worse and showed him as an evil person, a sinner.

I know you guys see it, you just either don't care, or agree with it, they don't even try to hide it anymore because no one has fights against it, its the majority standard, you can say anything bad aboiut the majority and the have to accept it, Christians are the majority, so anything pro Christian is preachy and forcing a message on the minority, anything anti Christian is art, and should be famed.

Cool. You just proved my point.
You now know why they took offense to it. The same way you took offense to the Temptation. Or are you the only one? Nope. I remember a LOT of outrage when that movie came out. Don't you?

Show anything that slaps another religion in the face and expect outrage. :)
Have a director with a family history that shows his father doesn't even believe in the holocaust and look out! More fuel for the fire. Turns out the Director's latest drunken tirade proved them right. And I love Mel Gibson as an actor/director.

Sorry, they have just as much right to be outraged, probably more.
If you want to continue this... PM me.
I don't want to be responsible for derailing the thread.

Lord... I mean no offense but you're an actor. It just seems weird. I mean I'm glad they made it work but most people would be like what?

Kirk Cameron, a fundamentalist Christian evangelist, refuses to kiss any woman other than his wife under any circumstance, so to film a scene in which his character in Fireproof (2008) kisses his wife, the filmmakers had to dress Cameron's real-life wife, Chelsea Noble, as the wife character (played throughout the rest of the movie by Erin Bethea) and shoot the kissing scene in shadow so the difference between Noble and Bethea would not be as evident onscreen.

All you have is speculation, 2 lousy examples, and some more speculation. If I wanted to bag on power systems, which I do regularly because of my political views (I wont even go there and we know why) I'd have plenty of evidence, IE facts, to back it up.

"They don't try to hide it anymore?" prove that with some evidence.

"It's the majority standard?" Since you are speaking for the majority of Hollywood, prove that statement too.

All I see you have is speculation. Plus its becoming harder and harder for me to decipher your posts.... you have two majorities in your last statement, is it Hollywood versus the population of the U.S.? With the U.S. majority of Christians, it goes against your entire argument that....

anything pro Christian is preachy and forcing a message on the minority, anything anti Christian is art, and should be famed.

It's up to the people to decide that, always has been and always will be. You don't have a leg to stand on...

Also since you keep talking about Scorsese flicks, Temptation and Cape Fear, did you know he almost became a priest? And says that's what he'd be doing if he wasn't a filmmaker...
