Hey,

I am a college student who may recieve a grant to shoot a feature over the summer. The grant will be a minimum of $3,000. However, with my ever increasing experience i wouldn't be surprised to gain a lot more (plus once i get the grant there are ways to make the money build on itsself tenfold).

Anyway, I am looking for a few script that I can show to the board of directors.

Here is what i'm looking for:

Drama, action, or fantasy (think pan's labryinth NOT a kids sorta fantasy but dark)

Or a film staring 9 to 14 year old (that fits into the above categories).

90-120 pages. DONT WORRY ABOUT HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO MAKE IT! I have A LOT of resources here (if the location if a forign country... still don't worry about it. my college has a backdrop like england!)

If you're interested please send me a line. Icetalenproductions@gmail.com

Please have your script wga registered or copywritten. It doesn't HAVE to be when you send it to me but it would be a good idea non-the-less.

I need the scripts by december 1st.

Thanks all.

That don't involve Las Vegas?? Write a book about generating 10x your initial investment and make money with that.

I can already get $300K for my movie, but $3M is where I'd love to be sitting. Please share your method...

Well what i was planning on doing is a bit different. One given the grant for 3,000, there are other groups that give grants such as 5 or 10 grand to shoot a film. this is in va.

I don't know about your situation. sorry

Hey egyptionboxer!

Don't take this as too critical because its important to do anything to attract support for one's film. Just be aware that when you are talking about money, with presumptions on how much you can make - in view of attracting support (from what - deferred labour) that people will scrutinise your offer very carefully.

First of all your a college student, (what impression does that lend of fiscal might?!) and a grant for $3000 is GREAT - but its in the land of economic bars its in the 'cute' rating for a movie hehe. Certainly not a realistic budget for a feature.

Of course you could make a mumblecore / microbudget on weekend movie with the most dedicated of volanteers for that but not much else.

Of course you do have $3k and you talk about how you can get more. I think Jennzababe, when he talks about getting more - he's talking about using this grant to gain 'matching funds' perhaps from other local organisations and businesses.

You also talk about 'board of directors' without any specifity about exactly who you are approaching for money. If its for something genre related - and not community related - then that is a much more difficult approach imo. While businesses that might invest in a film (not fund/contribute) will be far far more discerning - and will likely pooh pooh any dreams of helping you produce an entire feature for peanuts when your still at college.

You also don't have to tell us that you 'have a lot of resources here' unless lol you have a rich uncle! Because we all know about the 'resources' out there, and guess what? Its not nearly as easy as it sounds!

So asking for writers to send their creme de la creme of scripts so you can sell them is a hard sale mon amie - because you don't seem to have a credible plan/record of making lots of pennies that would make a scriptwriter go WOW this guy will get loads for my script. More likely script writers may send specs etc with offer prices that will likely crush the small budget you've got!

Good luck - I suggest if you want to produce an entire feature with a tiny budget, that you take a different approach to attracting scriptwriters. Go on your knees hehe and say, look, im a promising noob - are you a promising noob scriptwriter - can we work together outwith $$$ to help realise a project - etc!

Hey lawriejaffa,

I appriciate your comment. I guess i should be more specific and give greater details about what i'm talking about.

The resources i'm speaking of is the housing the college will give to cast adn crew as well as catering. That means 3,000 without catering and housing.

I definitetly did not mean to seem like i was looking for the creme de la creme.. I was more interested in people who have written a script and just want to see it produced... Or a new writter who is interested in writting something... i gave a minor requirement (i know a really great actress at that age i would love to have star in a feature) and am hoping for the best.

The board of directors I was speaking of are the people who give the grant. They include some of the "major players" at the college (head of departments such as english and film). Last year they gave a guy with no experience 3,000 to shoot a film. I have written directed and produced 3 short films, I have worked on several film sets as anything from an associate producer (on a set of 30) to a PA (on a music video shoot).

There are other grants out there that people are willing to give to up and coming filmmakers who have already raised some money (in va). Since i could have 3k, I may be able to increase it with the many grants available. Also, I could use local businesses that use the college for advertising.

Well I hope I don't sound too forward... I guess i kind of assumed that people who are looking to get their script developed, would be noobs who haven't been in the business very long.

hehe I know but id suggest lightening the foot on the 'sell' pedal!

Heres how you come across ;)

- Okay guys got an amazing opportunity, ive been awarded a grant for 3k, i can totally get so much more money... probably, and have great contacts with key uber important people so dont worry how much your feature script costs to make - send it, as i can totally maybe make anything!'

Its like having a shabby guy try to sell me a necklace on the beach made from sea shells, then offering in the same sentence premium shares in his NYC investment bank...

Your approach needs to be a little bit more humble I think - id suggest this hehe, (and of course its just an opinion...)

- 'Im a college student, and im looking for a collaborator to help with a short film that i have recieved a 3k$ grant to produce. While I understand this budget is limited, I hope that if there are any writers, in a similar situation to myself, they might be interested in cooperating to our mututal benefit.'

Don't pipe on about your contacts... of stars *ahem* or potential to make money, because you dont have any credibility to speak like that (not you personally obviously - just the fact you dont have the cash yet!) But you do have 3k which rocks man, so thats what you have to barter with.

You should also offer some to the writer who works with you (a tiny amount, but just as something!)

So less BS, more humility will get you so much further!
