FIREPROOF is #3 at the boxoffice! yay! :) We'll see how those sold out showings over the next 2 days place it after the weekend is over.

A film with 1/3rd the theaters as NIGHTS IN RODANTHE and it still managed to make half of what that film did.

The total money spent on this film for production marketing and prints was probably around 5 million (estimate) so if it does what I think (20 mil. theatrical) it'll def. profit in a big big way.

If 80% of Americans identify themselves as Christians, then how can you say the demographic isn't a big one?

Who do you think went to see Blair Witch who wasn't a fan of horror movies? The general box office figures alone can't support the contention that it drew a wider demographic than just horror movie fans -- although I do believe it also drew indie filmmaker types.

I think the 80% is a bit of a misnomer. Many people identify themselves as Christians, but this doesn't mean their attending church, listening or watching Christian content. -

ON Blair Witch ? Much more people saw this film on it's hype and marketing than the casual horror film junkie. It was a phenomenon at the time. This wasn't the same crowd seeing SAW IV exclusively.

I don't know about not getting people to see Passion of the Christ outside the niche area, I saw it twice but they couldn't get me to see Fireproof even if I had a free pass... thats not a diss but just the truth, I see at least one movie everyday and there are still tons of flicks I need to watch more than something like this

I feel the same way. Maybe it's Kirk Cameron or the kind of Hallmarky feel and look, who knows what, but the trailer alone isn't making me interested. Not a diss, I'm not going to see Lakeview Terrace either.

Here are Friday's numbers

Eagle Eye $9,931,000

Nights in Rodanthe $4,662,000

Lakeview Terrace$2,069,000

Fireproof$2,060,000

So you gotta hope by the end of the weekend, the film makes 7 to 8 Million ?

So if a film costs 5K to make and grosses 10M it's financially successful. Of course. Great for the producers and the investment.

But if it only grosses 15,000,000 overall it's not really considered a box office success in the powerhouse sense of realm.

I predict a final domestic box office of 14,000,000 total.

These people made a movie (Flywheel) for $20,000. It got distribution and made money.

They made their second movie (Facing The Giants) for $100,000. It got distribution and made money.

Their third movie (Fireproof) they made for $500,000. It's in fewer than half the number of theaters of the top 5 movies this weekend, and it's ranked #3.

These people are doing something right. We should be learning from their example.

I agree completely. I'd love to see their working model.

But damn, Kirk Cameron ? Why not put Rick Schroeder in their next film ?

Just to clear a few things up.

Flywheel cost $20,000

Facing the Giants - $100,000 prod budget...cost total of about $500,000 by the time Provident Films got ahold of it and go it to where you see it now. Professional mix, strengthened score, color correction, etc. etc. No money left for much marketing at all, the PG rating controversy is what really stirred the pot, getting it launched into mainstream media and news.

Fireproof - $500,000 prod budget, with another $500,000 or so (re: an interview from the producer) spent on PR and Marketing.

Proceeds from Flywheel and FTG (and soon to be Fireproof) go towards the 82 acre park Sherwood Baptist Church is building for their community including a 100ft steel cross recently raised. The budget for Fireproof was donated and collected from scratch just like FTG regardless of constant funds coming in from FTG still. Its still a best seller out there.

Yes, but FTG only cost the PRODUCERS $100,000. Same with Fireproof. How much the distributor has to put into it doesn't matter from the producers' standpoint. It doesn't cost them a nickel more.

J.R. you're right, about the 80% they don't all go to church, the have Christ in the background of there lives, they dont like to be preached at, they like to feel good about there lives, and thats wat Holywood gives them. but say a hollywood budget film was made with hollywood cast and crew, that was funny, sweet, romantic, action fllled, like fireproof, a good number of those 80% would ruch to see it over and over again because it makes the feel good about life, and their religion, at the same time if it just brings one of those viewers closer to God, or to God, then the Filmmakers consider it a sucsess in both fronts.

a lot of you are judging this film without seeing it. but as i said in my last post its not at all what i expected from the trailer.

in my life time 2 other films made me want to cry, "terms od enderment" and "Steel magnolious" add this film as the third on that list.

please watch it before you judge it, this film is history, its put a huge hole in the anti Christian glass ceiling that is hollywood.

Regardless of what we're all saying here, the bottom line is this... Fireproof is going to make Christian films viable for a decent sized theatrical release... this is opening doors up everywhere.

I care less about what critics think of a movie, and more about what the audience thinks. Critics watch a movie whether it's something they're interested in or not. The audience pays their hard-earned money because it sounds like something they want to see.
