Music Video Output to DVCPROHD vs. HDCAM???

What are the real differences between the two? If i am getting a deck to be able to submit HD material to MTV, BET or VH1, does it matter which one i use?

The other option is an SD Digibeta Deck, but i am here thinking that it will be totally obsolete in about a year! Might as well go HD!

Any thoughts?
 
Capt...er...Major is right. We are the last people you should be asking. You have to ask the networks what they will accept.
 
A FEW years ago? Sure it wasn't like 10? I had rushes from telecine delivered on 3/4 for a Disney show I did in 1998...but we never mastered to that.

Ugh.

DVCPROHD vs. HDCAM???

OK. So digibeta is completely out of the picture. What would you have to say about the two competing HD technologies?

Should i be leaning toward the sony or the panasonic technology? Is the broadcast industry leaning towards favourite?
 
Digibeta is FAR from out of the picture. TV broadcast is switching to DIGITAL broadcast by Feb 09, not HD ONLY broadcast by Feb 09. Digibeta will be around for a while. TV Stations need to upgrade to HD equipment, and that ain't cheap.

The network standards are HDCAM, HDCAM SR and D5. I haven't found a place yet that takes DVCPRO HD tapes. D5 is also Panasonic. But more and more, HDCAM is the broadcast standard.

I'd just rent a deck as needed. No reason to drop 70-100k (if not more) on a deck unless you absolutely need it, IMO.

It was sometime in '03. Yeah, I did a double take when I went to do the dubs (I was a dub monkey at the time). I was like MTV 2 wants the master delivered on 3/4"? Really?
