AVCHD files in Premiere?

I need to shoot a project with an AVCHD camera, but Premiere doesn't accept that format. I found a program (VoltaicHD) that will convert to WMV files, but Premiere won't accept those either. When I then convert to Quicktime the quality of the footage is totally destroyed.

Does anyone know a better workaround for this? Please help!

Panasonic has a free AVCHD to DVCPRO HD transcoder on their web site.
You can try that but you'll need to give them your e-mail address and they will e-mail you the download link.

If you're on Windows you can use Movie Maker to convert wmv to an avi file that Premire will use.

I think the DVCPRO HD is a faster and better quality way to to go.

Hi,

TMPGEnc Xpress 4.0 is a great encoder for $100 that will encode AVCHD to HDV. Does a terrific job.

I think the Panasonic encoder only works on Panasonic files - I could be wrong. It's free, so try it first.

you can do it for free in premiere, just follow HiDef1080's method, it is 100% correct,

Go to panasonic's website, download the AVCHD - DVCPROHD wrapper program, and you can open the resulting files in CS3

Hi,

I must be doing something wrong. I can't get my Canon files to convert at all and the program tells me that it's strictly for Panasonic footage.

Transcoder version

Transcoder version

Panasonic AVCHD to P2 transcoder ver. 1.2 will only work with AVCHD files acquired with Panasonic cameras.
Version 1.1 works with my Canon acquired AVCHD files.
I have discovered this when downloading the second time to my other workstation without first noticing the version.

Hi,

Thanks. I have 1.2. Is 1.1 available anywhere?

No AVCHD 720 support in Premiere CS4

No AVCHD 720 support in Premiere CS4

Hi

I am surprised to not be able to find support for any AVCHD 720 in my new Premiere Pro CS4. I hope I have just missed something.

I bought the Panasonic HMC150 for 720p60 and with all the noise about CS4 supporting AVCHD believed it would be supported.

Anyone have information if support is forthcoming.

Have I just missed it. Seems like the HMC150 is going to be very popular.

Even my old copy of Nero plays the files!

Adobe to support AVCHD 720 in CS4 early Dec 2008

Hi

I spoke to an Adobe Engineer at the DV Expo in LA and was assured that Premiere CS4 will support the Panasonic HMC 150 720P format in about a month (early December, 2008 release). He said they included only 1080i initially because they felt that was where the interest was.

Hopes this helps somone - I am a bit underwhelmed by the interest my above post generated!

It looks like Adobe is again rushing to add new features to there CS4 package without fully supporting them. Same old story, 'well it'll be supported in a few months'. 'Just a few extra clicks'

I heard of a November update and a February update, but not a December update..yet. Is Adobe gonna do Service Pack releases like Microsoft. With CS4 when it crashes your asked to send a report now. Jim said he got his Beta in October, the same month they released the product. I've been like a local Adobe evangelist in my home town, but the CS4 lack of even regular features (regular 24pa support, AAF export, one click frame exports) almost out number the new features.
